I've got new glasses and I hate them.

They looked lovely when I tried loads on in the shop, I'm sure they did, so why do they look so crap now?

Does anyone know of anyone that has a nice teen range? I have a small face so can't have adult ones :(

Take a look in glasses direct. They do a home trial service. I can highly recommend.

sonata1 · 27/08/2015 18:14

Alot of young people (Including my DD) are going for these new Spanish frames that have multi coloured mosaic patterns on the arms.

Pringlesandwine · 27/08/2015 18:16

Is it worth going back to see if the lenses can be cut into a different frame? Also the anti reflection coatings can make a real difference to how glasses look when they are on.

sonata1 · 27/08/2015 18:16

She has a small face and tried the kids range but they were too small so she went for a narrow pair of adult frames. Some are two tone and some mosaic.

legolegolego · 27/08/2015 18:29

Do Glasses Direct do a smaller size? I can't see the option on the website but I do like the choice they have.

Do you have an example sonata?

Even the petite adult range were too big for my face. I wonder if I just don't have the face for glasses!

Pringles, I did have anti-reflection lenses put in so that could be why. I might have a look at the Specsavers website to see if they have any other teen glasses that they may swap them for.

I will have to wait for DD to come home and see if there is a name inside the frame as I can't remember the make.

SueGeneris · 27/08/2015 21:12

Are you me, OP?

I do this every few years or so. In fact I've never had a pair of glasses that I like. I have the same problem having a petite face so most glasses look ridiculous. I've spent hours on websites deconstructing the dimension of different pairs to work out how big they would be.

I did Glasses Direct last summer. Had about three trial boxes of four pairs, took photos of myself in all of them, endlessly compared the photos and eventually chose two pairs. Did I like them when I got them? No! I'm back in my old glasses.

So, I have no good tips. I'm still looking. I kind of think I just don't suit glasses.

Hmm.

legolegolego · 27/08/2015 22:21

sue it's so frustrating isn't it? I actually had laser eye surgery a few years ago to get rid of all this drama but I am back to square one now my eyes are going bad again. I long for a normal sized face!

OP posts:
SueGeneris · 27/08/2015 23:18

I always look hopefully at the glasses leaflet that comes through the door from Specsavers but none of them suit me. My kids laughed hysterically at one of the photos of me in the trial Glasses Direct glasses. I think they thought I was joking!

Hope you do manage to find some you like. That's bad luck about the laser surgery too.

zoemaguire · 27/08/2015 23:26

I'm in the same position! I thought they looked edgy and cool in the shop. And maybe they are, but I'm not sure I am edgy and cool enough or indeed at all to carry them off!!! They were such a lot of money (need thinned lenses), I feel a bit sick thinking about it. I'm hoping I will get used to them!!! No advice, but much sympathy!

legolegolego · 27/08/2015 23:26

After wearing them all evening, I'm slightly warming to them. I'm a bit put off because my best friend said I look 'fine' in them...

OP posts:
MyHeartsPumpingWine · 27/08/2015 23:35

Would you be brave enough to post s photo?
I used to hate glasses that I'd chosen and I'm pretty sure it was because I had chosen them with blurry eyes and could then see them properly with the lenses in ect. They alway grew on me though although once I'd found a shape that suited I rarely ventured away from it and just changed colours and frame thickness.

Jinglebells99 · 27/08/2015 23:41

Did you get them from Specsavers? As they have a no quibble guarantee with 30 days or three months (can't remember which!) but you can exchange them or change them. Thinking of taking mine back because I got a pair with reactive lenses and I don't like that they stay dark when I go inside.

legolegolego · 27/08/2015 23:48

I did get them from Specsavers, although their teen range isn't exactly broad so I'm not sure I'd find another pair that were much better. I will go and have a look in case though.

I will post a photo tomorrow...maybe Wink

I would like to suggest you to replace your glasses as these day plenty of online website allows you to replace your order or change your order. So according to me its not big deal to replace your glasses.

sonata1 · 28/08/2015 10:20

How fortuitous. The opticians have just rung about DD's contact lenses so I asked about the frames. they are called Etnia Barcelona and I think they have a website. Hope this helps.

BumbleNova · 28/08/2015 10:20

have you tried chanel frames? i also have a very narrow face and use to go for kids glasses. they are pricey but much more delicate frames than other brands and tend to be very narrow.

FluffyCubs · 29/08/2015 07:22

I think with glasses, you need to consider your hairstyle as well..... I've had to grow out my Fringe a d it was too busy with big geek types frames, and I have waist length hair so I need to keep it up now, or I look like ugly betty

legolegolego · 29/08/2015 08:18

I am googling Etnia Barcelona and Chanel frames as we speak!

I think you're right about the hair. I did a sort of half up-do with my hair yesterday and had some really nice comments from people. Feeling a bit better about them now. I was going to have a new hairstyle cut in next week but now I'm wondering if that would be a mistake.

Same narrow face problem here (not that I ever realised this until I needed glasses?!). I got Chanel 3221's from Shadestation (after trying them on in Vision Express where they were double the price!). Shadestation do free next day prescription delivery too, sounds like an advert but they were amazing.

CuffsAndCollar · 29/08/2015 09:11

These

suzannefollowmyvan · 29/08/2015 09:26

I going to give glasses direct a try next time I get new glasses!

legolegolego · 29/08/2015 09:56

I've just had a look at the dimensions of my glasses and they are lens diameter 46 and bridge width 17 - even the narrow Chanel ones are 51! It seems very unfair, although my bank balance is pleased Wink

Ive fallen in love with these from Etnia Barcelona, and they have a 46.1 lens diameter in the narrow size.

Cuffs those glasses are lovely

DD has Nimes 15 in the Etnia Barcelona. Can you find any local opticians that stock them so that you can try on a few pairs ?

sonata1 · 29/08/2015 12:07

She has GYGR (multicolour mosaic arms) but I see that they do all sorts of variations and colours in the Nimes 15 range.
