jumpsuits / playsuits yay or nay?

I'm panicking re an upcoming big night out - just dinner and drinks with girl friends but for a special occasion and at a trendier than usual spot. Friends are mucho more groomed than me, have extensive wardrobes and big budgets for hair / clothes / make up. I fall short in all these departments and rarely go anywhere where jeans and trainers won't cut it.
Soooooo long story short, in my panic I bid on and have won a black all in one thingy with sort of cap sleeves from eBay - am I about a year too late to be wearing it? It has gold/ sequins round a v neckline and is other wise plain - is it a disastrous choice? I don't want to look like a mum who never gets out!

Is it a jumpsuit or playsuit ie. Long or short? I love a jumpsuit, can't do a playsuit.

I like jumpsuits
As long as you feel good it will show

Aah is that what the difference is then? It's def a jumpsuit, long trousers, they look quite wide/flappy

I think I might feel a bit self conscious tbh which is prob not the best start! I'm just not used to going out, don't have any frame of reference for what is worn these days!

My black jumpsuit is my "go to" outfit in a rare night out here. I love it with a pair of heels you can't go wrong. Enjoy your night Smile

Sounds nicely understated to me.

It sounds good!!

Wear with heels if the legs are long and flappy. If the fabric/cut is quite loose then cinch in at the waist with a thin belt. Wear earrings but not dangly ones otherwise may look a bit 1980s.

I think jumpsuits are fab, more interesting than a short skirt or jeans and you don't have to show lots of flesh (though I've yet to find one that fits properly).
Playsuits are trickier but structured ones with proper sleeves can look ok (H&M do a lovely denim one). The flimsy, strappy ones are trickier unless you're a pouting 17 yr old.

On a personal level no, as I look like an idiot in one. My DD pestered me to try one on, still mortified at how horrendous I looked, but that's just me. I've seen other people wearing them and they look fantastic, so in a nutshell, if it suits you and you feel good, then go for it.

Thank you all, especially to the idea of a belt, hadn't thought of that and it will surely help it look a bit more tailored won't it? I'm used to Jeans or khakis which have a but more structure round the behind - I'm a bit horrified at the thought of loose/draping fabric in that area!
BUT I am glad to hear they are acceptable still!
