Is this okay for a Christening?

I was thinking of wearing this blouse with black leggings, nude court shoes and maybe a blazer. Would this be okay for a Christening?
I'm a little worried that leggings aren't dressy enough.

Depends on the church and if it is part of the usual service. It is on the casual side - how long is it on you? I don't like leggings as trousers unless the top comes a good way passed the bum.

If it is a special Christening service at a traditional church, I think you need to be more dressey.

BitOutOfPractice · 26/08/2015 13:04

Sorry but I think leggings are too casual

Squooshed · 26/08/2015 13:12

I'd go with trousers.

Leggings with heels distress me.

legolegolego · 26/08/2015 13:14

I'm not overly experienced with Christenings - all I know is it's in a church in the afternoon and on to a pub afterwards. The parents are quite edgy and I'm worried I will turn up dolled up to the nines and they will be more casual. But they could go the other way, and I would look silly/underdressed in this outfit.

I have quite a short body so the blouse does cover my bum.

Any other suggestions on what I could wear? I have a 2 hour drive to get there and I'm worried a dress would look crumpled by the time I arrive.

I think leggings are far too casual for a christening. The blouse is nice though- how Long is it at the back?

Iamnotloobrushphobic · 26/08/2015 13:17

You could wear the blouse with skinny black trousers rather than leggings and team it with a black and white clutch bag.

legolegolego · 26/08/2015 13:21

The back is the same length as the front. Any ideas where I could get black skinny trousers? I always end up with trousers with a baggy bum or with the bottom of the leg being too wide for my little ankles (and end up looking like a child on the first day of school wearing trousers that are too big!)

Gap is quite good for the black trousers

legolegolego · 26/08/2015 13:27

I love that nottheOP and also the one underneath with black trim. I have a very boho style but I find it hard to be dressy in smart situations. Would that kind of dress not be too casual?

Could you wear it with a pencil skirt or skater skirt? Or skinny trousers like somebody else suggested.

Leggings are only suitable for casual daytime in my opinion. And shouldn't be replacing trousers!

I'm not even sure if the blouse is right for a christening tbh, it does seem a little casual or officey. It's the sort of thing I would wear with jeans to the pub.

legolegolego · 26/08/2015 13:29

Those trousers are smart but would look horrendous on me. I think I may have to go with dress if leggings won't suit, trousers just do not work with me.

Ditching the blouse may be the way to go then. I bought it thinking I would get a lot of wear out of it which does perhaps suggest that it's not smart enough. Any other suggestions are very welcome...

I would wear a nice dress with flats (or heels if you would rather). And a blazer if needed. Doesn't have to be a very smart or dressy dress, just something pretty that you feel comfortable in.

I'm a big fan of floral tea dresses but appreciate they aren't everyone's style!

I wore this dress (but in a different colour) with flat sandals to the last christening I went to. With a cardigan.

legolegolego · 26/08/2015 13:46

Oh that is a beautiful dress. What is the Apricot sizing like? I'm normally a 6 and not sure if an 8 would be too big.

Or how about one of these?

They're all lovely but I'd probably avoid the cutout one

BrendaandEddie · 26/08/2015 14:04

Leggings are not a trouser

BrendaandEddie · 26/08/2015 14:05

no need to get all dolled up for a christening in my expierience
just dont wear club wear - many do!

legolegolego · 26/08/2015 14:11

You'd all hate me then, I wear leggings and long tops nearly every day!

Runningupthathill82 · 26/08/2015 14:19

Leggings are not trousers, and definitely not for a christening!

No need to get overly dolled up, but equally you don't want to look like you've just pulled your jim jams on.

As pp have said, some stretchy 7/8 length cigarette trousers would look much better. Or a dress.
