What 5 key items should I be buying this Autumn/Winter?

I don't spend much on clothes and when I do have a splurge, it's usually high street stores. I'm a size 12 and a young at heart 47 year old and tend to dress casually with a nod towards current trends.

What key items should I be looking for this Autumn/Winter? I've been for a quick browse and I'm thinking of a denim skirt, faux fur gilet and something in a mustard colour?

Any ideas would be gratefully received

No idea re 'should' but I have bought:
a red plaid shirt to wear with skinnies
And I have my beautiful new black biker jacket, which I can't wait for it to be cool enough to wear! Ditto wool fedora.

I plan to buy:
a blanket cape thing, to wear over/under said biker on cooler but dry days
new black ankle boots

I really want a faux fur gilet too, but I am yet to find one that doesn't look a bit cheap or costs an absolute fortune!

Remus I like the red plaid shirt and skinny combo but I have teenage daughters who wear that look so I've got to be careful of dressing too young

nanny I know exactly what you mean. I'm sure there's a perfect one out there.

Oh me too - but have decided I don't care! I'll wear it with mum boots, instead of my Converse, and make sure that all of my wrinkles are visible, so that nobody mistakes me for a teenager!

Something plaid, dark olive army-style jacket, cream jumper and ankle boots.

Off the top of my head without thinking about trends, it's what I'm leaning towards.

I'd love a pinafore. I've seen a few around (Urban Outfitters did a nice one I think?) But don't think I could carry one off.

I made my own faux fur gilet last winter, plenty of ideas online and free patterns I get plenty of comments

I don't know about shoukd, but so far I have bought:

A wool coat - a classic navy peacoat
A striped lurex 70s style polo neck (not to everyone's taste, but I like it) for with high-waisted black skinnies.

On my list are:

A wool cloche hat
Chunky black ankle boots with a sturdy sole
A black, slightly cropped crew neck jumper for wearing over blouses/shirts

(I have identified the hat and boots and will be buying them come payday. The best jumper I've seen is Whistles so am debating cost per wear...)
