Wedding outfit for 8 yo DD

We've had a close family wedding announced unexpectedly and I'm in a dilemma with DD2. Both DDs live in skinny jeans, hoodies and converse but elder DD is quite excited about the prospect of getting a girly dress and will happily try on loads in Monsoon/Next till we find something, so not a problem.

DD2 on the other hand hates dresses and skirts and hates shopping more. She's reluctantly agreed she might wear a dress as it's a special occasion, but only if she likes it, and she wants to be shown it online and order it, not have to go to actual shops. So far we've established that she likes plain fabrics or graphic patterns at a push (no ditsy prints, no animal prints, definitely nothing floral), strong colours esp red and purple (no pastels), definitely no frills, sequins, bows, embroidered flowers etc - which rules out most of the kids 'occasion wear' I've seen. (I'm aware this makes her sound v demanding but I'm not about to put her in something she hates because it will ruin her enjoyment of the day.)

I've looked at Monsoon, Next and Boden so far and (possibly because it's the end of summer and the Christmas occasion wear isn't yet in) have come up with a big fat zero. The wedding is October so we've a few weeks but I know once school goes back, time will fly. Any suggestions for other online shops that have funky or non-girly but dressed up outfits that I could scope out?

Would she feel better wearing trousers and a top? I wore a pair of smart cropped trousers with a nice top and a blazer to the last wedding I went to. I didn't feel I looked out of place and actually had quite a few compliments on my outfit.

I don't have any shop suggestion sorry, just wanted to say if she really feels uncomfortable in dresses and skirts, they aren't the only option.

She probably would, Perp (certainly that's the outfit I'll be going for, I hate dresses as much as she does) but Adult smart trousers are available and I can't find smart girls trousers anywhere - just leggings and skinnies. If anyone can find those, please recommend!

My niece wore a sparkly shorts playsuit over tights and a cardi for our wedding. I thought she looked lovely.

What about a playsuit? New look has some lovely ones Smile

OrionsAccessory · 17/08/2015 11:11

You could look at playsuits too, there are loads of them around I think.

I've linked to some jumpsuits from Debenhams. They don't exactly fit your daughters criteria Grin but she might change her mind!

All the jumpsuits I've shown her have got a firm No (prints and stripping off to go to the loo seem to be the issue.) thanks for the reminder that Jigsaw do kids clothes - I'd forgotten, and there's a lovely navy dress that might be deemed acceptable. The John Lewis site someone else linked to has some Yumi and Derhy dresses that may fit the bill too - I especially like this one, so fingers crossed it meets with approval! m.johnlewis.com/mt/www.johnlewis.com/yumi-girl-pearl-look-trim-lace-bodice-dress-navy/p2059377?un_jtt_v_pdp=yes&un_jtt_v_from_product=un_product_51#page_loaded
