Could I please ask for some about dresses?

I haven't ventured on here before and I am so far away from stylish it's laughable.

I am going to a wedding reception soon and would really Luke to wear a dress.

I'm a 12/14 in most shops, but really quite busty, 34g at the moment. I normally have to go to a 14/16 in tops.

The last time I went out I wore a black deep v neck top, quite tight fitting, and a silky, straight, knee length skirt. It was a change for me as I usually wear a line skirts. I felt I looked ok and got compliments from work colleagues, but felt like I had to hold my tummy in all night!

I think I'd like a dress for the wedding party, but am struggling with where to get one. Online would be easier for me with dcs. I've looked at pepperberry, and liked some of the dresses, but saw nothing that jumped out at me.

Do any of you have any suggestions of where to look? Or should I go for skirts and tops rather than dresses?

Thanks if anyone gets this far!

Can anyone point me in the right direction? Not that I'm desperate!

No, no stay :) I am not sure I can help but a friend of mine always looks good and she wears dresses that cross over at the bust. I wonder if a me and em dress would work for you ? Something like this www.meandem.com/wrap-top-ruches-dress-navy.

HazleNutt · 15/08/2015 15:39

I have a similar figure - Phase Eight fits well and is flattering

SandraMelandra · 15/08/2015 16:22

Ooh, thanks you two. I'll have a look. I think crossover would look good, though I've struggled in the past to get the balance between matronly and slutty. Grin

Hi - what's your budget, what colours do you like wearing, what length do you like, and what about sleeves?

BeautifulBatman · 15/08/2015 16:44

How tall are you?

SandraMelandra · 15/08/2015 16:45

Closer,

budget up to £100

I have to wear a bra, so nothing strapless or with spaghetti straps. It'll be warm, so nothing too heavy or bulky.

I tend to veer towards black, but have brown /blonde hair and green eyes, so open to suggestions.

5'4" and curvy, so I think knee or above would be best?
Confused thanks Wine

I have a similar figure and get a lot of stuff from oasis, warehouse and coast

Try and of those - particularly a-line skater style dresses with a deep V. I have just bought this one and it's gorgeous on

Could I please ask for some about dresses?
FauxFox · 15/08/2015 16:52

What about a full skirt and fitted top in co-ords? Then you can buy the top and bottom sized to fit.

Not sure if it's your thing, but the Lindy bop ophelia dress is very flattering, and roomy for the bust too. I can't link as in app, but have a Google, they're 50s style dresses, I have a few and always get compliments.

CloserToFiftyThanTwenty · 15/08/2015 17:21

Blue patterned cross over A-line

CloserToFiftyThanTwenty · 15/08/2015 17:24

Pattern - might bring out your eyes nicely and easy to accessorise

CloserToFiftyThanTwenty · 15/08/2015 17:25

Monochrome

CloserToFiftyThanTwenty · 15/08/2015 17:26

Pretty in pink

CloserToFiftyThanTwenty · 15/08/2015 17:32

Aqua fitted

Any of these spring out (in either a good or bad way!)?

SandraMelandra · 15/08/2015 18:38

Wow, thank you all so much! I've just spend a very happy half an hour browsing all your suggestions.

Home away, love that navy dress, so sophisticated.

Queenbean, that's a lovely one too, I can imagine it looks fab on.

Fauxfox, love that skirt, but I think the top is too boxy for me.

Closer to, thank you, they're all lovely. I had a winner with the aqua one, it's gorgeous and is on it's way to me! I've saved that shop too as I'd never heard of it, they do some lovely stuff.

Cordeliafoxx, wow, the lindybop ones are right up my alley!! I've ordered the Ophelia in the greeny, purple. It's so cheap too!! I really, really hope it fits. It looks like one that'll either be fabulous, or ridiculous!

Thanks all so much, you've really helped me.

Glad we could help!

Damsel in a Dress is a fab company, IMHO - they are really comfortable to wear; lots are machine washable but don't look it, so great for work; and well made. Some John Lewis stores have a concession and you can buy most of their range through the JK website (so worth looking out for red cross sales etc to get them at a reduced price). Smile

SandraMelandra · 15/08/2015 19:02

Sod it, I've ordered the Vanessa monochrome wiggle dress too!

Thanks you guys, you're ace .Star Flowers Cake Wine

Dowser · 15/08/2015 19:41

I like the aqua one too.

CordeliaFoxx · 15/08/2015 20:13

Glad you liked them, when you buy a Petticoat to go under it, you can get them well priced, you don't necessarily need a lindy bop one, I think I paid £10 for mine on Amazon.

SandraMelandra · 15/08/2015 20:33

I've gone all giddy. I've ordered a red petticoat, another black lindy bop dress and some red heels.

I have the aqua one coming too.
It's time to stop shopping and drinking! Wine
