When I say style, I mean it quite loosely. So, for instance, I would happily include Liz Hurley on the basis that she is still in v. v. good nick even though I am less sure about the clothing sometimes. Nigella puts a smile on my face quite often - gorgeous in her 50s. Halle Berry is up there too. What I am keen for is people's top choices in terms of style too. Want clothing inspiration that is age appropriate (to the extent that that matters), but still on trend. Not quite ready to embrace comfy slacks and fleeces yet, but suspect my days of trotting about on Christian Louboutin heels are far behind me too…..

Surely she is younger though??

I love the Emmanuelle Alt,Caroline De Maigret look but somehow I don't like Kate Moss's as much, even though it's similar.
The French ladies are more polished I suppose ,same components but pulled off in a way more to my taste.

I agree Camilla has developed a good look for herself too, as has Sophie Wessex.
I suppose we really only see Carole Middleton when formally ddressed but I loved the dress she wore to visit the hospital after Prince George was born.

BoboChic · 15/08/2015 08:22

Parisian women love the aggressive rock chic look as they age. Lots of brands with that look.

BoboChic · 15/08/2015 08:24

English women have massive 4x4s that they don't really know how to drive to signal their dominance as they age.

NotdeadyetBOING · 15/08/2015 08:44

My God that is inspiring about Sophie Marceau's age. There is hope for us all. Agree with Wavingnotdrowning about preferring French woman look over English mother of bride LK Bennett look.

If you want to dress like Emmanuelle Alt you need to shop at Iro, Maje, Sandro, Zadig & Voltaire, perhaps Vanessa Bruno...

NotdeadyetBOING · 16/08/2015 09:13

I am inspired by this list of shopping venues. Preparing to embrace my inner Alt. But suspect my pointy ankle boots will be flat.

Zara is also a great source of cheaper rock chic looks. Take a good look at the brands I listed below and then browse the Zara site for cheaper a likes.

Oh yes, she is fabulous and intelligent.

NotdeadyetBOING · 16/08/2015 16:29

She makes the cut big time.

Overall, there are plenty of people to inspire…. That is what I wanted, really. Gives one hope. All is not yet lost….

Have just spotted that Sadie Frost is turning 50. I would say she looks pretty great for her age in an achievable way.

NotdeadyetBOING · 18/08/2015 07:09

Agree about Sadie F. Bobo I am going to try digging around the French shops you mention in an attempt to Alt-up...

I really don't get the admiration for the Emmanuelle Alt kind of look.To me, it's just the French equivalent of skinnies and a stripey top. Alt always looks nice and I certainly don't want to start a 'pile in' on her but I think there are far more interesting dressers of that age around.

NotdeadyetBOING · 18/08/2015 07:33

I agree she isn't the 'only way'. But I do think she represents a way of looking young, stylish, chic, but not ridiculous. Sort of a grown up/cleaner Kate Moss, if you will.

No, no, no I'm not talking about Kate Moss ever again - I've already had to apologise twice on this thread Grin

It's not a bad look - I just feel it's kind of thrust at us, not by you but on every thread/in every article about dressing at 40/50+. It's like there's an undercurrent of 'Middle aged women! Wear black and grey and don't frighten the horses.'

I concede I may be overthinking it!

NotdeadyetBOING · 18/08/2015 16:19

Ha ha! I think there is room for everyone's views….. If we all dressed the same the world would be a v. dull place. I get where you're coming from Grin.
