Hello Wise Owls

Has anyone used a product like this in a campervan / on a camping trip?

Thank you

I'm afraid I just use a woolly hat. Grin

Sorry, that's not very helpful.

PetiteBateau · 12/08/2015 19:11

I don't do camping!! My partner is desperate to buy a campervan for weekend breaks.

yup beanie hat for cold, baseball hat for rain, or big straw hat for sun - it's camping not catwalk Hmm

No need to be snidey always. I am asking for advice on travel straighteners, not on what hats to wear on holiday.

Thanks petal. I've been looking at a few on amazon but I just wondered if anyone on here had any personal recommendation based on experience

I have the gas straighterers. I had them for when I was weeks in hospital and they wouldn't let me use my GHD's (no idea why!). They are ok but not great. If you have very fine hair they'll do but thick hair and they can't cope.

PetiteBateau · 12/08/2015 19:34

Thanks lolimax. I have very thick unruly hair so they probably wouldn't be any good for me. The search continues

I've got the gas ones too. Probably ok for going over/refresh already straightened hair. I've got fine hair and they do the job but I would say emergency only. Rubbish for thick hair

PetiteBateau · 12/08/2015 19:58

I don't use them for straightening but for waving. My hair is extremely thick & poker straight so I use ceramics to give it a little movement. If i don't I look monstrous

I find that cordless appliances never get as hot as 'normal' appliances. OP - is your hair long enough to be put up, if all else fails? Or just put the sides up, for a semi up-do?

PrimalLass · 12/08/2015 20:19

I'd go for the ones that plucked in to the cigarette lighter. The reviews are good.

PetiteBateau · 12/08/2015 20:20

Petal, Yes It is long enough to be tied up but I have a full fringe which needs straightening after sleeping because it bounces up & looks dreadful

PetiteBateau · 12/08/2015 20:20

Thanks primal. Does anyone have experience of using the ones that plug into the cig lighter in a car?

Ah, well if it's just your fringe that needs straightening, you should be fine with cordless straighteners! Just thinking though - where will you plug your hair dryer in (or will you be letting your hair dry naturally)?

DownAtFraggleRock · 12/08/2015 20:26

on a long trip if we don't have a powered site I go to the shower block and plug in there...

SilverDust · 12/08/2015 20:40

I've got some cordless gas ones that are completely useless. I've had mine a few years but the up to date reviews for them on Amazon are still pretty mediocre. I keep retrying mine in the vain hope they've miraculously improved but they are still useless. I've been looking at the car ones and am planning on getting those, the reviews are good and they arent expensive.

And what's wrong with wanting to look nice when camping? I had my nails done just before going camping this holiday, they didn't impede me putting up the tent on my own and they toned nicely with my onesie Wink

Thanks everyone, I appreciate the helpful responses. I haven't been camping since I was nine & I wasn't keen on it then Confused. I want to give it another go but don't want to do it looking like a wild woman of the woods. I wouldn't need to wash my hair as it would just be overnight stays in a campervan on weekends.
