Pedicures- are they worth it

just back from waxing and special offer on pedicures at beauty salon. I've never had one, are they worth it? Special offer is luxury pedicure at same price as standard.

I've only ever had one at a chiropodist, and it was worth every penny (£25). Never tried one at a beauty salon - what would they do?

Exfoliation, massage with heated booties , cuticle work, cooling mask & polish

Yes i would say go for it. Feet will look and feel amazing afterwards and should continue looking good for a couple of weeks in sandal weather.

Its actually fairly easy to do your own - get one done in the salon and pick up some tips. That's what I did and now I do my own all year round

if you have really bad feet start off with a chiropodist.. then do cosmetic one

If you can do your own polish then I would do it yourself.

Remove old polish
File nails
Use a foot file on the dry skin
Soak feet
One foot at a time - use a scrub - face or body, your feet won't mind
Apply a bit of oil to the cuticles
Soak again and remove scrubby bits
Push back cuticles, slowly, carefully and meticulously - a metal hoofstick is good or use a wooden one
Rinse feet and dry
Slather on moisturiser
Put feet in plastic bags and socks over then relax
After a while massage in remaining moisturise
Wipe over nail plate with remover
Put on flipflops
Base coat
Polish
Polish
Top coat

Voila!

The only caveat I would make is that the last pedicure I had (at a very upmarket salon) gave me nasty fungal infection. The owner was very defensive when I (politely) complained, but one of her employees let slip that other women had also been back to complain about the poor hygiene standards. Sp, from now, on, I do my own and the advice given on this thread is excellent.

Totally worth it. Mine lasts around a month, sometimes 6 weeks. Makes your feet look gorgeous!

Its so nice too, a real treat. Mine are never as neat if I do them myself.

Just be careful who you have do it. The last one I had (where I always go) the chap doing it kept filing my ankle along with the hard skin on my feet and had me bleeding by the end! I won't be going back again.

Not all treatments are equal! Many nail salons are not trained and it shows! Ask to see their qualifications and their insurance, as this might give a little peace of mind as to the hygiene aspects, but this is obviously not always a guarantee. Having trained, we were taught to recognise problems before being allowed to actually do anything with a client's feet, as not only is it bad for the client, it is not great for the therapist either! Recommendations are best. Something I love are the paraffin wax treatments, for hands and feet, but are easy to do yourself and for very little money!
