Taking my DH to a personal shopper

DH hasn't had new clothes for ages other than suits for work. At least two years. So, we've saved up and are off to Selfridges to see a personal shopper. If you were getting a whole new casual wardrobe for your DH or DP what would you get? He's 5'11 average build, long arms. Early forties.

what does he actually like? need? does he need eg sporty clothes or does he have those already? is he an outdoorsy person who likes gardening/hiking etc? is he a pub person? does he go out with you and his friends?

any particular dislikes (trainers etc)? colours he likes? I think it's usually best to let him see clothes in person rather than talk... as I think men are more visual than women. You don't really want to focus on how you'd like him to look, eg if he wants 2 pairs of really nice jeans that's good. or Oxford brogues etc.

it is useful to point out what colours suit him etc. especially as some men are colour blind and this doesn't help apparently when choosing clothes.

True. He's a bit casual iykwim. None of that man at Next or M and S. I think if money was no object, it'd be diesel all the way with some Paul smith for smart casual. He's not remotely sporty, bit geeky, likes computer games, chess, drinking at watching telly. Yay, we have an exciting life!

To be honest with you OP I'd let him browse the sales for Diesel and Paul Smith but someone better than me will tell you other brands which are nice.

My brother for example loves Fat Face generally with a bit of H&M thrown in - he likes H&M printed t-shirts, and some of their trousers.

also - look at what items of his are worn out or don't fit properly - eg jeans etc. does he need socks, underwear etc? or can that wait for Christmas from his mum....

what does he need? I'd say at a guess some jeans, casual trousers, a shirt, 2 t-shirts.

the only thing is if he wants a jacket now - it'd be a summer jacket. unless the autumn/winter ones are on sale.

also think about cost per wear... if something is on the higher side but he really likes it then see it as an investment. best to get something he likes rather than a faddy item that he won't wear.
