Dds hair is getting increasingly greasier .

Can anyone recommend a good shampoo for greasy hair?

And when I say greasy I mean washed in morning and by afternoon it looks like she's not washed it in days Sad

Cheap as possible. I was super greasy and curly at teen stage. Used coop apple shampoo.
It's also possible you are using too much/wrong conditioner, or nor rinsing well enough.
I also find chopping and changing shampoos every bottle keeps the buildup of product down.
Does she use anything else? Mousse, gel?

mrsmeerkat · 01/08/2015 22:57

I would apply the shampoo onto the hair dry and rub into the roots and then wash.

Previous greasy haired teen here

It's a difficult one and a vicious circle, as over stimulating the scalp makes the oil go mad, but you can't leave it, either.
I wash my hair every day, at 42. I have to. I hate the flat look. But I do make sure I don't overload it, and don't blow dry in summer if I can avoid it.

Double check her technique. Is she lathering efficiently and rinsing well.

Superdrug have one of their own brand lines of shampoo/conditioner that contains apple and tea tree - two ingredients which are great for greasy hair (much better than any higher end products I've tried). Give it a little while to kick in and only use the conditioner on the very ends of the hair. Also try using a baby powder on the roots - burts bees one is very good as it contains corn starch.

You need a really good clarifying shampoo and make sure conditioner is only applied to the ends of the hair, not the scalp.
I use Paul Mitchell Shampoo 2 and it cleans oily hair really well.

Yes to Co-op apple shampoo! I spent my childhood/teenage years with my very greasy hair stuffed under a riding hat and this was my saviour!

I'm finding that the solid Lush Honey I washed the Kids shampoo has counteracted greasiness in DS1, even though he only remembers to use it properly (ie lets an adult in the bathroom with him) about once a week.

I use it on my own hair when I feel like I have a bit of a product build up and it leaves it feeling properly squeaky clean without drying it out.

FastWindow · 01/08/2015 23:18

Neutrogena Clean was great, but I haven't seen it for a while.

Second avoiding conditioner on anything but ends of hair.

In the olden days (!) we shampooed twice until you squeak.

Might be worth going back to baby shampoo. Very mild, good stuff. Avoid Asda though. Dreadful.

And, at 45 I still can't go more than every other day without greasy stinky hair. So no better or worse than when I was 10. Just better balanced than with the horrible green or brown and very drying "greasy hair" shampoo I had to use 35 years ago.

WhoisLucasHood · 01/08/2015 23:28

Lush squeaky green shampoo bar is fab for my greasy hair, it's fairly natural so would be good for a 10yr old. Yes to condition only the ends, I ended up not conditioning my hair and it got so poor I had to cut it short.

Bluecheese22 · 02/08/2015 10:12

Alberto Balsam apple shampoo has cured my greasy hair. On offer at Tesco 4 bottles for £3!! Make sure you/she only conditions hair a good 2-3 inches away from scalp.

John Frieda volumising shampoo for blondes
Aussie Mega volumising shampoo

Most important is to wash hair under a nice strong shower so that it gets properly rinsed.

Childintime · 02/08/2015 10:41

I find neutrogena T gel shampoo good for my poor DD (13) who has inherited my tendency to greasy hair, it gives her 2 days as opposed to having to wash daily.

Bonsoir · 02/08/2015 10:55

Why the resistance to washing hair daily?

Coconuticetea · 02/08/2015 15:02

Alberto bahlsam

hazeyjane · 02/08/2015 15:06

Head and Shoulders apple seems to have sorted dd1's greasy locks

LikeASoulWithoutAMind · 02/08/2015 15:28

Is she definitely washing it properly? We had a similar problem with ds that turned out to be a lack of using shampoo Grin
