Which lipstick would suit me?

I haven't worn lipstick for years. Used to wear a lot of (dark) reds when I was younger.

Since having kids and stopping work, I just no longer know what suits me. However my mum recently told me at a family function that a little lipstick would look good on me, and that I should get some.

The only lipstick I have at the moment, is a Clinique one - a kind of cross between a gloss and a lipstick in Black Honey. This looks ok.

I don't know where to start. I have pale skin, green eyes (and wear glasses) and have dark brown hair.

I would prefer an 'easy to apply' one like the Clinique rather than a 'proper' lipstick.

Please help!

Tanned or not?

The revlon lip butters are nice, easy to wear, a bit more of a lipstick than Black honey.
They come in lots of shades.Bobbi Brown Sheer is another good line.

With your colouring Lipstick Queen medieval would look nice, again, it's a sheer one.

Maybe have a look at the Revlon Lip Butter range. They go on quite sheer so they don't make you feel 'Oh my god I'm wearing lipstick' self concious but they do give some colour and they're nice and moisturising. They're also easy to get hold of, Boots and Superdrug stock them.

See, I have that Lipstick Queen one and I am really disappointed with it. It doesn't stay on at all, and doesn't give the stain effect I was expecting.

Have a look at the Clinique Chubby Sticks. (Not the intense colour ones, the first ones they brought out). They're quite subtle but comfortable, easy to apply and there are lots of different shades.

Oh I love it. But I agree, you do have to reapply.

I love Clinique black honey. I also use bobbi brown's nude which is a good colour and Dior lip glow.

It really depends on your skintone. Are you cool or warm?

Yy I was about to ask if you're cool or warm toned. Purely off your hair and eye colour I would guess cool but you need to check it yourself.

If the veins on your wrists look blue then you're cool toned. If they look green, you're warm. Some people are neither one or the other and are neutral but most are cool or warm.

If you suit silver jewellery, you're cool toned. Gold, warm.

Once you've established that you can get a colour that'll suit. A warm coral would make someone with pale, cool skin look awful, for example. Whereas a cool based red or pink would look amazing.

I get the warm vs cool skin tone thing and I can see warm and cool tones in clothing etc but lipsticks throws me. So for example out of these chubby sticks which are warm please?

Actually some are obvious but it can't be that all the pinks are cool can it?! I have Oversized Orange and Chunky Cherry (which looks more red than pink once on but I suspect may be cool?).

Interesting about veins! I have blue ones and wear sliver jewellery so I guess I am cool-toned. Not tanned but skin is slightly less milk-white as it's summer.

I like the look of Dismal's link - the Rosewood BWC. But I would rather try before buying online.

A trip round Boots or John Lewis beauty departments looks to be in order (minus the kids preferably so I can concentrate!!). The Clinique chubby sticks look good too. Colour is one thing but it has to go on nicely and easily or else I know I will never wear it.

Cool pink are blue-based, so magenta/hot pink/fuchsia while warm pink are yellow-based and leans towards coral pink, peach, peachy pink.

Oranges are warm too. Anything brown-based are for warm skintone.

I think it's impossible to tell whether a shade will suit you without seeing it in real life tbh.

Orange lipstick makes your teeth look yellower.
As does a peachy colour lipstick.
So take care.
It really suits me but I can't wear it because my teeth are not super white
