Sequin skirts -yes or no?

I've got a big glamorous night out planned in London this weekend with friends I haven't seen for a while. I am wondering if a sequin pencil skirt with a looser top tucked in would be good or is it a bit old hat? I would wear with heels and a clutch bag. Ian a size 12. I don't go anywhere fancy ever and just haven't a clue what to wear. Thank you!

I have a bottle green sequin pencil skirt I wear with dark denim shirt tucked in,one of my favorite outfits.
