Postpartum hairloss

Wrong forum, I know, but I'm looking for a wider range of responses and hopefully some reassurance.

When baby was about 4 months, my hair began to fall out quite excessively. There was hair everywhere - the house was destroyed in it, car, even baby constantly had hair all over him. I was reassured at the time that this was normal, even though my hair was much lighter and was receding at the temples. It did stop at maybe 7 months or so and I now have an inch or 2 of 'new' hair at the temples.

Now, baby is 10 months and it seems to have started all over again, about 3 weeks ago. Everytime I brush my hair, the hairbrush is full and the house is once again covered in hair. I block the plug hole everytime I shower. Right over my ears now appears to look very light but with the amount of hair everywhere, I dont know how I'm not bald

I'm just wondering, could this still be postpartum, even though baby is 10 months? Has this happened to anyone else? I am still breastfeeding, if that's relevant.

It's really, really stressing me out

The same thing happened to me. My gp said to take a silica suppliment. My iron levels were also low. Taking hair and nail vitamins and an iron suppliment stopped the hairloss pretty quickly. About 6 weeks later I started seeing more fine regrowth along the hairline.

It could possibly be just the natural shedding cycle that is now more pronounced because of your previous loss. It took my hair two years to get back to normal. And then I had another baby

I had patches of hairloss all over my scalp at 9 months post-partum, attributed to a pph 2 months after my daughter came along. Lost 2l of blood, received multiple blood and iron transfusions to recover. My hair's protest started 7 months after that event and started getting better after some sun, a break, rosemary shampoo and staying away from Google. If you can see regrowth that is good. I had the same with my first. Hair lost at 6-8 weeks and then a second lot around 9 months. I was still breast feeding but as weaning was well underway was down to 3 feeds a day and no night feeds. Also coincided with periods returning. Friends that breast feed had similar - a second round of hair loss after weaning.

Try Hubners silica. You can get them cheaper on Amazon than in the health food shops.

4 months seems to be the standard time for post partum hair loss. I used Phytocyane Shampoo which seemed to help quite a lot.

Mind you, after I gave up breastfeeding at 17 months I noticed, not so much hair loss, but lots of short bits around my hairline which still hasn't improved and my son is now 2 and a quarter. Mind you, I have a lot of grey too which can be brittle, so maybe it's just snapping off more.

I had something similar at around 10 months when my hormones changed, something to do with weaning (I was also breastfeeding, but at 10 months she was sleeping better and feeding less). It upset me with DD1 but I was prepared when it happened again with DD2. It settled down after 2-3 weeks.

Apparently as bf reduces due to solids, it can trigger weight and hair loss. Happened to me. I'm under 8 stone for the first time since 20 ... but also tufty with thin hair.

Go and get your bloods checked, I had the same and had an overactive thyroid. I took a vitamin E supplement and within a week or so my hair stopped falling out

My hair loss accelerated when I stopped breastfeeding so as others have said it my be reduction in supply due to weaning that is triggering the same thing.
