Special dress - help please!

I don't know where to look for this dress.

I'm a bridesmaid (the only one) at my friend's wedding in September. She doesn't want the traditional bridesmaid dress. Any ideas where I could look, please?

I'm 38 years old, 5 ft 5" and a size 14-16.

Help, please! Thank you!

Is there a colour scheme?

If you are the only one, why not just get a dress you'd wear for a wedding?

To be completely non-traditional, you should wear a wedding dress, though. Wink Think Pippa. Grin

tethersend · 26/07/2015 18:00

What sort of dress is the bride wearing?

PressEscape · 26/07/2015 20:01

Thanks both. The bride is in traditional white, but it's a very small wedding with no colour scheme. Which shops do you recommend, please? Thanks.

What sort of style do you like? Colours? Budget? Sleeves or sleeveless?

tethersend · 26/07/2015 20:17

It really depends on what you want (sleeves? Length?) And on the type of dress the bride is wearing (full length? Silky? Lacy?)

...and of course, on your budget.

An idea of your colouring would also help Smile

Lucked · 26/07/2015 20:20

Personally I would create a little shortlist and then run them by bride.

I need a budget!!

Lweji · 26/07/2015 20:21

But she does want a dress that is recognisably bridesmaid?

Budget would also help...

PressEscape · 26/07/2015 20:42

Unfortunately I can't really go much over £100. The bride likes floral, I like mid-length sleeves at least.

Any colour.

I'm pear-shaped unfortunately.

Thanks so much everyone

Apparently it doesn't have to be traditionally bridesmaid-like

If you're paying, it should be something that you'll wear again. What kind of dresses do you usually like? Colours?

RemusLupinsBiggestGroupie · 26/07/2015 20:52

Too boring?

PressEscape · 26/07/2015 20:59

That's lovely, but a bit plain I think. Thanks though.

I like things that aren't too figure-hugging, and maybe a bit fifties in style - flared skirt, maybe?

This might be a bit too pricey but sort of floral, not too traditional, full skirt, elbow sleeves and much more beautiful in real life (I have the coral dress with budgies on from the same designer).

House of Frazer have lots of lovely stuff in their sale, but it ends tonight.
This is the first one I liked of loads and loads

Thank you. I LOVE that Poppy England dress, but can't quite afford it, unfortunately. Beautiful though.

Thanks, I'll have a look at the sale. I'm not sure that maxi dress would suit me. Thanks though.

Gorgeous and a total bargain but no sleeves

Lovely print but only tiny sleeves

Pretty green silk Would need to see on - the shape might be a bit frumpy.

RemusLupinsBiggestGroupie · 26/07/2015 21:39

red short sleeves

Surelynotabridezilla · 26/07/2015 21:46

this is beautiful, I actually considered it for my bridesmaids as it was just their style, and they could easily wear it again. In the sale too!

tethersend · 26/07/2015 21:58

any good?

tethersend · 26/07/2015 22:03

blue

RemusLupinsBiggestGroupie · 26/07/2015 22:05

Or maybe a statement skirt instead?

This is gorgeous irl

AppleSnapple · 26/07/2015 22:42

Surely, that is gorgeous!
