Eyelash extensions - anyone had them?

Am having eyelash extensions done this afternoon - very excited but also a bit nervous! My lashes are very short, so when on holiday recently I used eyelure individual cluster lashes which were easy to put on and looked amazing - I actually felt like a lady! Anyway, have decided to treat myself to proper ones, but wondering what the pros and cons will be. Has anyone had them done, and for how long have you been doing them? Im thinking that this is basically going to be a lifelong commitment because I already feel really naked without the ones I wore on holiday! Are they going to damage my lashes etc? ANy tips on aftercare?

I looked into getting them done but they seemed a pain to look after. I don't think you can get them wet etc.

I've had them constantly for pretty much the last 3.5 years and only just had them removed as I was away for the summer.

I love them - you can roll out of bed and look "ready" for the day. Now I no longer have them on I feel old and unattractive. My real eyelashes are so short and stubby!

You will become addicted and they are expensive to keep looking nice. I had mine infilled every two weeks as once you start losing them and getting patches in your lashes it's noticeable and looks unkempt, which is exactly the reason I had all of mine removed for the summer.

Go for it, you won't regret it though your bank balance may!

Sorry I meant for the first 24 (at least) hours. And you need to be careful with cleansing and moisturising. Just seemed too risky for me!

My lashes are done by a company called Flutter, and you can do everything you would normally do in them. So swimming, showering etc as well as enhancing them with mascara and putting lash extensions strips for a even fuller look.

I had them done with a reputable salon, fully trained lady did them. I loved them, they looked amazing.
But....
My eyelashes were ruined after, all stumpy and most of them fell out

Make sure you use the little comb you get given to stop them from clumping

First few days they look great, then they start sticking out at odd angles/look sparse.

They can also scratch- I work with a woman who blinks non stop because her fake eyelashes irritate her. Is absurd.

OMG! I am really getting the fear now! Why didn't I do this post weeks ago?! Im now terrified that I'll f*&k up my (short) lashes for good! yikes! Maybe I should just stick with the ones I do myself? Fuck, why can't I just have nice normal lashes?! DH has got AMAZINGLY long lashes - it's not fair!!!

I asked about this before my birthday but couldn't get the hour to have them done. She said they last about 3 weeks and you should avoid getting shampoo on them or they can get loose.

Thing is I can't cancel apt now without incurring full charge. ARGH!! maybe I'll get lucky and they'll be ok? My hairdresser has been getting them done at this particular salon for years and has never had a problem. Wish me luck ladies - shit I'm scared!

I trained in eyelash extensions and it is not true that they ruin your own lashes. The lashes themselves weigh hardly anything. People lose their lashes because, as the lashes start to grow out, they pick them and pull them out. If you don't pick, you won't lose lashes.

Also, they don't make your natural lashes short and stubby. How can they? What happens is that clients forget how short their natural lashes were before the extensions. For this reason I always used to take before & after pictures to remind clients what their lashes were like before!

It is addictive, though. And expensive. And please ensure that the salon apply the most stringent hygiene standards. During my training we were taught about all the little bugs that can live in eyelashes and burrow into the skin. It gave me nightmares! But it also made me aware of how important it is to sterilise everything before and after each client.

I had them done for about a year and loved them. I got them removed professionally when I didn't want to have them done anymore - only reason was money, would still be going if they didn't cost so much.
Eyelashes weren't ruined as I didn't pick or pull them out and got them removed by the salon. I loved mine. Just listen to their care advice/take a leaflet. Don't wait too long to get them topped up. Make sure you get them to remove them when you want to stop.

Just wanted to add I didn't pick them! Maybe I'm just not compatible with them

I've been getting mine done every 2 weeks for the last 2 years. Love them! My own lashes are short and stubby and I was always trying this mascara or that and spending ages curling them and trying to make something of them.. Now my lashes and eyes look great all the time and it saves me so much time - can get my makeup done in a jiffy

I've had them a few times and they were brill but after my lashes looked stubby and sparse but I bought a serum from Amazon which brought them back to life!

I get them done sporadically at Top Shop in London and I love them. No mascara and very gentle with the make up remover. They look great for a couple of months and then they need a bit of maintainance.

Personally I find that as a hyper lazy beauty type, I'd rather get my eyebrows tinted to make myself look a bit more presentable. Assuming you'd do one or the other.

Also, I was lucky enough to get my make up done recently by a pro. She said Revitalash genuinely works and she was bloody right. So that might be good for if there's an incident

I had them done about two weeks before my wedding and I loved them for that. I kept them for about two months and they were great but they did irritate me slightly especially when they started coming out.

My eyelashes are very fine and quite fair though so they made a big difference even though I didn't go for over the top ones.

They didn't ruin my eyelashes at all as far as I could tell. I loved having them for my wedding and honeymoon etc but not something I would have all the time. Was fun for a while though, having 'proper' eyelashes!

I used to have them done about 4 years ago. They always looked amazing at first but as they started to shed they were so irritating - some would fall out after a few days, others took weeks, leaving an unsymmetrical look. I admit it, I did start to pick them out and ended up with short stubby eyelashes. After about 6 months the good outweighed the bad and I gave up - they weren't worth the time or expense.
