Do Spanx really work?

Off to a wedding in a couple of weeks and want to look a bit less porky than I do now. I've just bought a pair of high waisted Spanx shorts and am wondering if they are any good? I want to be able to eat and breathe in them!

Yes, I wore a pair to a wedding recently as I had a very fitted dress on. They worked and I could eat, breathe and dance in them.

Yes, they work. They are fairly comfortable too.

I think the slips are much more comfortable.

M&S do very good ones for a better price.

I bought a Next pair and they frickin kill me.

I think they work if you are already slimmish ,choose your normal dress size and only have a little bit of a tummy to control. They work really well to give a smooth outline for clothes to skim over. Anything more is beyond their capabilities Im afraid.

Any other brands I've tried have worked but have been uncomfortable. I could wear spanx (high waist shorts) all day.

I'm no stranger to a lycra helping hand. I've got an M&S control slip thing that you can wear your own bra with but I find that the straps are really uncomfortable. I'm not tiny, but not massive either, (14/16) and I'm not expecting them to make me look 2 stone lighter, but am glad to hear that they mostly work in smoothing things out and are not horrendously uncomfy.

They should work on me, as I'm basically slim but with a fat tummy stuck on the front, but I can't wear them. I find them unbearably hot and uncomfortable, like I'm being suffocated. I'd rather look a bit tubby than suffer that.

judgelionelnutmeg · 19/07/2015 17:19

I have a pair and agree that they don't necessarily make you look thinner but they do smooth your lumps and bumps so your silhouette in clothes looks better. Fairly comfortable too.

I have the boostie yay corset and the normal Bridget Jones esque pants (can't remember the name). Both are comfortable, really do the job and don't roll down.

Jewels234 · 19/07/2015 19:40

I should maybe mention that I'm a size 10 so don't have a huge amount to suck in. But they make everything look a lot better
