Seasalt vs Boden mac

The pendulum in the school playground seems to have swung away from the Boden Rainy Day mac, and towards any mac by Seasalt instead. I do like the look of Seasalt, and my Boden mac is showing its age, but can anyone convince me that the high price tag of Seasalt is worth it? Boden at least reduce their things on a fairly regular basis, but even on ebay Seasalt seem to stay close to full price. Are they properly rainproof?

Mine is completely rainproof and windproof. Definitely worth it imho

I like the Boden shape & lining but it's showerproof only, great for work but not for standing outside in a monsoon

Seasalt. I have both and in terms of actual keeping-the-rain-off performance the Seasalt ones win hands down.

I love my 3 Seasalt raincoats. They are machine washable unlike my Boden one, with Nik Wax to re-waterproof them.
They often have sales on them.

I've never had a Boden so not sure how they compare but can recommend Seasalt. i have had mine about three years and its still fully waterproof.

Seasalt, I love mine, it comes with a detachable gilet for when it's really cold and really keeps rain out! and it was half price in the sale. Or if you're anywhere near Street, Somerset, Seasalt have an outlet shop there where it'd be cheaper.

I had a Seasalt printed-with-a-pattern (navy blue and greens) mac about 3 years ago - a fine canvas outer with a thin sort of rubbery coating inside. Lovely colours and nice shape plus well-fitting hood. It was excellent for showers, but in the mountains in a summer downpour it let rain in quite dramatically after about half an hour - I was only walking from one village to another; no serious activity -but after about 3 km I was soaked. Also, I found that the wet 'skirts' clung heavily to my knees. Perhaps it was not meant for that sort of exposure. Have gone back to terribly unstylish but genuinely waterproof Goretex and similar anoraks.

The more recent Seasalt models may be much better, of course - I don't know. I do know that the model I had seems to have been quickly discontinued, so it might not be fair to judge Seasalt on that basis.

John Lewis had quite good reductions on Seasalt when I was in there last weekend. Some of the macs were reduced.

Seasalt definitely. Bought mine nearly full price but two weeks ago they had 50% off ALL macs. A bit gutted!!

Flora, Seasalt rank their Rain range with different levels of "waterproofness" and I suspect the printed macs are only shower proof as are the Boden ones. Which should be renamed Showery Day Macs!
