Do I have to wear heels with a formal dress?

I have a formal, black tie event to go to in a couple of weeks (eek!)

I have no idea what I'm going to wear, but I'm looking at this:

www.seduce.com.au/shop/dresses/aquifer-dress.html

Problem: I cannot walk in heels. Can I learn within 2 weeks? Can I wear this dress with, say, wedges? Flats? (optimistic) I just can't walk on anything remotely spiky. I'm 5'11", with dodgy ankles.

Please help!

No, you certainly don't have to wear instruments of torture heels if you don't want to. Look up the enbrogue.com blog - its written by a fashion journalist who can't do heels either. Loads of ideas about how to make flat shoes work with various different outfits

Oh, thank you - that blog is a great resource!

Could I wear actual flats with a floor-length formal gown, though? Or will it look naff?

Be warned - I have ended up with a bit of a flat shoe addiction because of it!

I would definitely wear flats with that dress. Maybe silver or gold, or red if you want something a bit more striking. Could go for a glittery sandal style if you want something a bit more glam
