Insect repellant

Hi. Does anyone know of an effective insect repellant that does not smell like an explosion in a chemical factory.

Off on hols soon and am keen to avoid the nasty bitey things that adore taking chunks out of me.

Thanks in advance.

Mosi-guard is great. No DEET, but smells of eucalyptus quite strongly!

DD went on a camping expedition in the Dales at the weekend and attached those band thingies to her rucksack. Came home bite free for the first time ever!

She said she got them in £world, 2 in a box. I'm going to get a few boxes in for when we go later in summer now too!

Skin so soft by Avon is a body oil spray that is used apparently by the army when they go on manoeuvres and out in the field for days on end. The one I use is in the green bottle and definately works for me just as well as anything with deet in it. I buy mine on amazon.

Badger Anti-Bug Balm

Best one I've found is Incognito - it's natural, you can get it from Holland & Barrett or ebay/Amazon. I usually get really badly bitten but so far this year I've been bite free!

I second Avon skin so soft. Really works for me

Avon dry oil body spray.

It's true loads of soldiers use it.
especially on their pits

No sheet just citrus.

Deet.....

specialsubject · 14/07/2015 20:16

all very personal. The only one that works for everyone and for a reasonable time is DEET. If you are going somewhere with insect borne diseases don't fanny about with anything else.

The Boots 8 hour one in the blue tube is fabulous and has a mild quite pleasant smell. It is the only one--apart from actual Deet- which works on me. I so wanted the Avon one to work, but I got bitten terribly the one evening I tried it! And it took the colour off my flip flops, which made me wonder what was in it!

If you get bitten, heating the bite with a hairdryer really works to take the itch away, although obviously you have to be very careful.

I always get bitten if there are any mozzies around untilsomeone suggested that just before going and whilst on holiday I took a garlic capsule a day - I tried it and even if it's pure coincidence no bites ! I bought a pot of odourless garlic capsules fromBOOTS.

When DP (Army) goes anywhere he may be bitten (Scotland and further Grin) he takes the sss spray, more exotic locations (Spain, France etc) he takes P20 once a day mozzie repellent and sss.

He really really really hates being bit and will happily cast a shadow on an entire two week holiday because something bit his ankle Hmm

Think it must depend on the person - skin so soft definitely doesn't work for me.
