sunscreen recommendations?

ladies what sunscreen do you use on holiday? i am very pasty and prone to burning. I have been using p20 for years which is great - but it stains things and is a disaster if you have missed a bit so I am thinking about going back to conventional sunscreen, ideally without becoming an oil slick? I also find p20 is very effective at removing fake tan which is very annoying.

Sunsense is my favourite. It's a factor 50, really gentle on sensitive skin and very good at what it does! We have a kids version as well. It's tested to Australian standards which are very high ????

BumbleNova · 14/07/2015 18:31

Thanks clattering thats great. I had forgotten about sunsense, I used to use it when we lived in Oz. do you find it sticky?

Calypso dry oil, it's brilliant and only £2.99 from home bargains.

Vix270781 · 14/07/2015 19:12

A bit pricey but I swear by Ultrasun. It's wonderful! It is not greasy, soaks right in and you can't feel it. It's a once a day one too. Highly recommend. Like I say it is a bit pricey but QVC usually have some good offers on it Smile xx

Vix270781 · 14/07/2015 19:13

Ps sorry i forget another important part, it doesn't stain Smile

HarrietSchulenberg · 14/07/2015 19:15

Another vote for Calypso. It's a spray on, is absorbed super fast and doesn't leave greasy marks. I am very fair and I use factor 30. I've never burnt wearing it, and I use it on my pasty kids too.

Marylou2 · 14/07/2015 19:33

La Roche Posay Anthelios for me. Works brilliantly, doesn't stain. The light facial factor 50 never irritates eyes or causes spots.

PontyGirl · 14/07/2015 19:36

I swear by wilkos own. it came out tops when tested against expensive brands, and I've just used the factor 50 while away in 45 degree heat and blistering sun and it was fantastic - not oily at all. and cheap too!

LongDistanceLove · 14/07/2015 19:38

I used Wilko's own brand spray and I'm burnt to bits. (Yes I used it properly) so I'd steer clear of that.

I usually use boots own brand, but couldn't get to one in time.

Justmuddlingalong · 14/07/2015 19:38

I've just received my Ultrasun order today. I used the Ifsogo website, good prices and free delivery. I previously used Reimann P20, but got sick of the stains on clothes and looking greasy and shiny whilst using it.

dementedpixie · 14/07/2015 19:44

We used superdrug own make stuff this year after getting on ok with it last year

BumbleNova · 14/07/2015 20:19

thanks ladies. I will get some Ultrasun and sunsense and see how i get on. I dont mind spending money on it, i'd rather get top notch protection.

PontyGirl · 14/07/2015 20:35

long I didn't use the spray, I used the cream so perhaps that's the difference?

dementedpixie · 14/07/2015 20:42

extra cost doesn't necessarily mean better protection. Lots of cheaper products offer the same or better protection against uva and uvb rays than the expensive brands

RoobyTuesday · 14/07/2015 20:57

Demented pixie is right, you need to see how many stars the sunscreen has, not just the SPF. I bought some sunscreen this weekend and was interested to see that the cheap 'own brand' sunscreens had better protection (5 stars) than the more expensive products which tended to have only three stars.

RoobyTuesday · 14/07/2015 20:58

I'd also recommend superdrugs transparent spray. It's not greasy and has a nice smell.

Redtowel · 14/07/2015 20:58

The Nivea clear spray, factor 50. I'm very fair and live in a very hot country and I never burn. It's not at all greasy, just a nice clear liquid.

Melonfool · 14/07/2015 21:26

Ultrasun is the one recommended by the WHO. I liked it when I used it.

ItsAllGoingToBeFine · 14/07/2015 21:28

Another vote for Sunsense...

dementedpixie · 14/07/2015 21:37

nivea tends only to have 3 star uva rating with a rare 4 star so I avoid it

goodasitgets · 15/07/2015 03:36

Banana boat aerosol for me
Goes on clear, sprays a v fine mist and don't need to rub in
I like the kids version which is factor 50 but they do sport ones, aloe Vera, water resistant etc
Recommended it to my friend with a toddler as you can spray them as they are running away Wink

BumbleNova · 15/07/2015 08:58

good point re the UVA star rating, I will look at that too.

clatteringhooves · 15/07/2015 11:41

No, not sticky at all, just rub it in well :-)
