Maxi dress for a garden party

listeningtomyheartorhead · 14/07/2015 09:56

I need a new maxi dress for a party I have been invited to. Ideally I am looking for something slimming as some people will have not seen me since I gave birth a couple of months ago and I have lost 25lbs so want to show that off. I have big boobs and curvy bum but a narrowish waist. Hate my legs especially calves so no clingy skirts or splits. My budget is up to £50. Really dont want to go above that as have had a lot of outgoings this month. Here are a few I have picked. Opinions would be much appreciated.

Bump.

Im leaning towards the black one as feel that frills on the second dress will make my chest look bigger. I was hoping to get some more recommendations.

I love the first poppy print one.

InglouriousBasterd · 14/07/2015 15:52

I think the Poppy print one is lovely.

joquatro · 14/07/2015 16:45

Love the first one

herecomesthsun · 14/07/2015 20:41

i have this which is very flattering but also like this which is pretty but more expensive and this

listeningtomyheartorhead · 15/07/2015 03:46

Thanks. I decided to go for the poppy one. Will see how it looks tomorrow.

I got the dress today and it looked awful on me. Im 5'7 and it was just too short (above my ankles!) So Im returning it and going back to the drawing board.

Im leaning towards the second dress now. Was it not nice or just not as nice as the first one.

Please help. I need a dress by Saturday.

How about this from M&S. Normally I'd run screaming because, well, Per Una, but it's really rather pretty. Also, long, according to the reviews.

listeningtomyheartorhead · 15/07/2015 23:42

That is very pretty talisin. Love the colours but not sure about the butterfly pattern. Also i have a lot of black in my wardrobe so would like something with colour. I like bold colours like purple, emerald green, blues, gold etc.

Phase 8 have some nice maxi dresses. Like this or this?

3boys3dogshelp · 15/07/2015 23:57

Have you tried Pepperberry op? I find their dresses really flattering for big boobs with a waist. Some pretty maxis if you can stretch to £75, there is also a (new) pretty bright floral one on eBay for £16.99 (Google eBay Pepperberry maxi dress - sorry can't link on phone) if you're a 10 or 12.

listeningtomyheartorhead · 16/07/2015 07:52

Wow 3boys those dresses were gorgeous will make a note for next time I have a bigger budget. Merrily that first dress is gorgeous. I could definitely see myself in that.

What about these, too plain?

OP posts:
listeningtomyheartorhead · 16/07/2015 07:53

Well not plain but not suitable for a party?

JaxTellerIsAllMine · 16/07/2015 07:58

I like the second one and yes suitable for a party. It depends how dressy an occasion its going to be. some funky bangles and jobs a good un.

listeningtomyheartorhead · 16/07/2015 11:51

Just realised they dont have that dress in my size jax. Blush

I like this but not sure if frills will make my chest look bigger.

Next have some nice ones

BennyPoo · 16/07/2015 23:22

Have you tried BHS? I have bought a few maxis from there this year - the Dorothy Perkins Billie & Blossom range had a couple of nice ones.(although I cant seem to find them online...) Also Wallis are quite good at maxis.

JaxTellerIsAllMine · 17/07/2015 07:24

I think with the pattern you can get away with the layers - btw how big are your boobs? Grin

There are lots of maxi dresses around - in the sale, you will get 1

WhoKnowsWhereTheTimeGoes · 17/07/2015 07:32

My friend, who is also about 5'7 and big boobs had on a fabulous one the other day from Mantaray at Debenhams, worth a look.

TriJo · 17/07/2015 10:47

I got a Pepperberry maxi dress for a christening that I was at last weekend and got a ton of compliments on it. Got it in the sale so it was half price (£34.50). I'm a 30FF and just bought my normal dress size in the Curvy/Really Curvy variant.
