Face wash for DS10

He's got a few spots around his nose. I had terrible skin as a teen, but he had eczema as a baby and has kp too.

So, any recs for decent face wash?

I bought one for my son called bulldog. He's got quite sensitive screen and had terrible facial excema as a baby but gets on well with this.

We used to cover his hands with socks up to his elbows inside his sleep suits, but he still tried to scratch. Awful. Yes I bought the accompanying sensitive moisturiser which he uses. Another one to try is green people's oy! range. It's all natural so if he reacts to bulldog maybe try that. It's a little pricier.

I have used more expensive cleansers and they really aren't worth it. This one cleanses the skin well, doesn't cause me more breakouts, it's mild, doesn't dry out the skin and doesn't contain loads of perfume/fragrance or other stuff (natural or not) that could cause issues.

I looked at cetaphil but it contains SLS which I know with my son can be a trigger for his excema. But everyone's skin differs so may be worth a try OP.

At his age and with delicate skin I would use just a warm clean flannel and nothing else. Definitely wouldn't recommend Cetaphil as it has all sorts of nasties in it and can be drying for excema prone skin - no idea why dermatologists recommend it so much.

Have had sensitive skin all my life and got acne as a teen. Tried everything. Stopped hunting when I moved on to Dr Hauschka, which I'll freely admit I'm evangelical about. It's amazing, and I've remained totally loyal since, although have switched around within the range.
www.dr.hauschka.com/en_GB/products/cleansing-cream/ is a gentle and non-abrasive cleanser. As with all their products, it is mid to high price range, but you need only use a tiny amount.
For your son I would recommend

The teen range from Green People called Oy! is fantastic, nearly all natural, no SLS, parabens etc, etc. Excellent for sensitive skin, mine is crazy sensitive but I started using stuff from the range about 18 months ago as I was getting terrible hormonal acne and boils on my chin and jawline, it cleared up within a month and I have only had the odd tiny pimple since, I am fanatical about it, it's really great stuff.

Cetaphil does have SLS in it but it's way down the ingredients list so tiny quantities. It doesn't foam at all. SLS usually triggers my ezcema but I'm fine with Cetaphil - in other products it's usually the second ingredient.

I suspect dermatologists know what they are doing, what with the several years specialist training.

The ingredients list (bar the water) is composed entirely of stuff I wouldn't dream of putting on my skin.

There isn't alcohol in Cetaphil. There is cetyl alcohol and stearyl alcohol which are both fatty acids used as emollients.

Alcohol as ethanol there is not.

And parabens are widely used as preservatives across the whole cosmetics/beauty industry. One poor quality study raised questions about them which subsequent work has disproven.

But you know, they all sound chemically and unnatural so are clearly the work of the devil

Kp, and a history of other skin problems? I'd be considering what the underlying cause(s) might be. Does anyone in the family have diagnosed autoimmune conditions? Does he have any digestive problems?

It might be worth switching to organic skin and hair products. Look for products that say Organic, not "with organic ingredients". Properly organic stuff will have no parabens, sls etc.

An easily available range is the Dr.Organic toiletries stocked in Holland and Barrett - soap, shampoo, moisturiser toothpaste, deodorant, everything you need. It's a little expensive but it lasts very well as you need less I think.

I've bought right across that range and none of us have reacted badly to any of it although the rise shampoo left our hair lank - I d say that's probably a good one for those with very dry hair/scalp.

I'd prefer not to put synthetic oestrogen mimicking compounds on my skin (or my children's), actually. Particularly not in multiple applications (toiletries, sun cream, makeup etc, it all mounts up).

I think it's hard to find a completely perfect product.

There are quite a few natural fragrances which are known to cause allergies - and they are commonly used in products today.

Being organic doesn't change that.

I have personally accepted that the current allowed parabens are considered safe and are still being tested on a regular basis. I find the alternatives to parabens quite tricky to work out, as some of them are also suspected of causing issues.

Regarding SLS in Cetaphil, I have a sensitivity to SLS (I can't use toothpaste and shampoos with SLS as I get massive ulcers from it), but Cetaphil doesn't seem to cause me any issues and I have used it for a good while.

Thank you, whilst I agree in principle about organic sadly he has many allergies including many fruit and vegetables so think for him chemical is actually better. He's currently using my mi cellar water until I get him something to wash/flannel off.

He was prem and had antibiotics and c diff as a little baby plus strong family history of atopy so he's s bit stuffed, developed asthma through inhaled pollen too :(

'Chemically and unnatural', of course, yes, that's all I was basing my opinion on scientific thicko that I am.

Haha no worries, both my dad and I had to see a dermatologist when we lived in Belgium and they always recommended Avene.

For years GP's dished out aqueous cream to be used as a moisturiser even though it was never intended to be used a one, because it was a cheap option. They had years of training too
