Dermaroller For the Face

Has anyone used a dermaroller of 0.5 mm or higher? I just purchased a 0.2 mm from Ebay and it has definitely made a difference to my skin, my serums and face oils definitely absorb better and my skin feels softer.

However, to get better results and encourage collagen building I will need to use needles of at least 0.5 mm has anyone tried it and are the results worth it, also do you use numbing cream?

is it painful? Sorry, not helpful but it looks like an instrument of torture.

I will use it a couple of times a week so I build up a tolerance for it until I can use it ever day, it's uncomfortable but not painful. Though I think if you have needles of 0.5mm or more you will have to use numbing cream and use it only every two to three weeks.

Does it bleed much? Where do you buy the numbing cream?

It doesn't bleed with the 0.20mm face goes v. red for about an hour and then calms down. I've read Dr. Numb is the best but I am sure you can get cheaper options I need to look on E Bay or Amazon if I go ahead with buying the larger needles.

Do you use Retin A with it?

I don't see how encouraging scarring and inflammation by actively injuring your skin is beneficial and I'm a beauty junkie that will have a go at most things.

Oh and infection if it leaves wounds on the face?!

Oh yes, has it ever become infected? How do you prepare your face so you reduce the risk of infection?

I think the theory is that the tiny injury from each needle encourages collagen production and skin renewal. I'm not so sure I could do it.

Infection isn't a problem as long as you use alcohol to clean after use. It works for me definitely feel a difference in my skin.

There's lots of things I'm sceptical about skin wise and don't do that's fair enough but anyone used one?

I have had some quite deep dermaroller at Sarah Chapman's clinic in London. I think it is exceptional, and shows results very quickly. I bought a 0.5mm one from her brand and I had great results. I may not use it with enough pressure as I have never used numbing cream (and I am a proper wuss!). But I can hear my skin 'crunching' as it run it across my face, and it is not comfortable!!

Squeezy, while it is a peculiar idea, it does encourage collagen production and I do think it works very well. Other than some tingling I have never had any scarring or pain afterwards....For me I find dermaroller is better than a strong chemical peel, but the best ever results I have had is from LED Light Therapy...

I have one and use it in the winter months. Mine is .5mm. It actually makes me feel sick in the stomach before I start rolling. I havent noticed any dramatic results, but think the combination of that and a glycolic cream is giving me smooth skin (I'm 40)

How often do people do this?

LHReturns was there a big difference in results going to a clinic rather than doing it yourself? Interesting it might not be as painful as I thought. How often do you use it?

heartyrebel maybe you don't have many wrinkles? I'm 44 and I've noticed more and more fine lines appearing so thought (hoping) that it might work to reduce them?

Vivacia depends on the size of the needle if using the 0.2mm one you can use it every day if your skin can tolerate it, it only lets products absorb better. You need 0.5 mm and above to encourage collagen and use once every two to three weeks. If you use bigger needles you use less often.

A professional did mine. It made me sun/heat sensitive for 6 months - looked like a tomato when warm or on bright days

Hmm. Mine is 1mm and I forgot I had it until I saw this thread. Just done it now.

No, but I misread the label and thought I had 0.1mm so having just read the thread I think I must have pressed a bit on my chest because it's gone a bit red.

I clean it with alcohol and apply beauty serum and (a bit later on) moisturiser. Is there anything I'm doing wrong or should do differently?

The redness out weighed any small improvements

I have fine lines I hope it will improve, as well as some old acne scarring on one cheek I hope will go, but I probably havent been doing it often enough. I avoid during summer as I dont want my skin exposed to the sun afterwards (in southern hemisphere so sun is harsh). I tend to roll on a Friday night so my skin has a couple of days to calm down before facing work again.

I have a 0.5 and a 1mm. I bought some numbing cream from an online pharmacy. I use the 0.5 on my face - usually with no numbing cream but sometimes my skin feels more sensitive to it than others. It depends on your own pain threshold, I think. I do get some spots of blood but not a lot (I'm probably not doing it as hard as I should) and no scabs. The effect feels like sunburn for a couple of hours - I usually do it before bed.

I love it - my skin always feels better for it.

I bought some surgical spirit to clean mine - rinse with boiling hot water then soak for 20 mins in surgical spirit.

Thanks I think I will buy a 0.5 mm and see how I get on with it I have sensitive skin so think will get numbing cream as well.

I use mine with no numbing cream. Perhaps I'm not doing it properly?

I have sensitive skin even the 0.2 mm is getting to be painful. As long as you follow instructions on my previous post you are doing it correctly.
