Just had my bridal make up trial

And I look like a clown

Oh god. I've paid for her to come on the day and do it too.
So unprofessional. She had to go in the other room and do an intimate wax while I waited for 20 minutes.

I could cry

In fact if I cried it would still leave this muck on my face.
I'm worried now I've spent the money and I won't get it back and I do NOT want to look like this on my wedding day.

Here I am now in the same room as the one I did of myself the other day.

The foundation has all slid off all ready and the eyes are really really messy and heavy.

Could you insist on another trial (for free)? How long did she take? My hair and makeup trial that I've booked says it can take up to 4 hours until we find something I like. I think it looks OK, it's just the liner on the top lid is too thick and not winged enough IMO and not mcuh good if it doesn't bloody stay on! What brand products did she use?

Did she use the setting face mist stuff?

Even with the same background I prefer your own.

The room does help it to look a bit better IMO, but the eyes are too much and I don't think that foundation is even the right colour for you.

Well if it's not even staying put (which is why you wanted a professional to do it), then it's definitely not worth having her do it. See if she'll do at least a partial refund, and if she won't make her turn up and get her to do the bridesmaids or random female relative who happens to be there and wants it done.

er...not much difference (that's makeup for you, it really isn't that noticeable unless you actually are done up like a clown) but the first photo is fine.

classic before and after example; in the second photo you are pulling a face and look miserable which is all that shows.

anyway, you've proved that you are perfectly capable of doing your own makeup so sack the artist and do it yourself. This whole 'I'm suddenly completely incapable on my wedding day' thing seems a bit daft anyway.

Lol not sure if the people who say there isn't a huge difference have been to Specsavers recently. Do it yourself if you can't get a refund. Offer to pay for the trial as she did do a job (even if it was crap).

bogbrush go read about the emperor's new clothes...

my eyesight is fine and so is that of everyone else. Makeup makes far less difference than a smile. OP looks very unhappy in the second photo and that piles on years and wrinkles. In the first photo she is content (although a smile would be good) and instantly 10 years younger.

too much slap also adds years, although that isn't the case here. Just a bit of black round the eyes is all that is visible.

'makeup makes you look very different and better' is in the same category as ' a bright scarf round the neck makes you look slimmer'. It's nonsense.

Your DIY job is much better.

You are more than capable of doing your own make-up. Use a primer five minutes after your moisturiser, leave it five minutes then do your base, using a long lasting one. If you look up MrsGlossAndTheGoss on Facebook and join, there are loads of people there who can help you and give you solid recommendations.

If I were you I'd be doing my own (I did done? the bridal party make up for my own wedding and my sisters) I'm a make up junkie and just had a few practise sessions to get my eyes right.
Your skin looked much more flawless in the photo of your make up and the overall look was more natural id go heavier on the eye makeup.
The make up you had done isn't bad, and your eyes aren't too heavy, maybe just not what you're used to?
IMO I need heavier eye make up for pictures as my eyes tend to get a bit lost otherwise.

If you can do your own make up (and you can judging by how nice you look in that photo!), I'd cancel her.

My trial left me looking like I was about to go on the stage or like a drag queen according to dh so I just did it myself. I just wanted to look like myself (only evened out and not sweaty for photos). Sometimes people put so much on 'for the photos' that they forget it makes you look overdone in real life.

I also did my own nails and after I'd done them the hairdresser said 'so are you getting your nails done?' Blush

Not keen on big fake nails either...

I don't do confrontation at all and judging by the way the staff were aggressively slagging off the customer who was there for her wax, how is best to cancel? What do I say?

It's quite a lot of money. If I don't want her to do the wedding I'd like at least half back.

I definitely don't think she used enough base/foundation, especially when you have to consider it needing to last all day and needing that extra coverage for photos. Maybe phone her up and say "I'm really sorry, but after taking photos of myself and comparing them with other photos, I've realised the makeup done today isn't covering enough/isn't the look I am after. I've realised I'd like to do the make-up myself. Can I please get a refund on the booking I've made?"

Similar thing happened with my DD's hair trial recently. It was awful. The woman was a very bolshie, know it all type. 22 years experience blah blah. DD looked like something out of My Big Fat Gypsy wedding. Because she wasn't being asked to do the make up as well she was very scathing about the make up artist (who she didn't even know) wouldn't tell us a timing schedule for the make up part and told us what she would do and which room she was going to do it. After a sleepless night (both of us independently not wanting this creature to put a damper on the day itself) DD texted her a polite message saying that she was going with someone else and how much did she owe for the trial. I say get rid. You want a relaxed wedding day. Pay her for the trial and look elsewhere.

Poor you Sad

I remember a fiend getting married at the same time I was, I was really envious as she hired someone to do her makeup. The trial went well but on the day it all went wrong, so stressful for my friend.

I agree with Saga. I think it would be very unfair not to refund you at least partly because a trial is just that! It's perfectly possible that you won't like it and will change your mind about having them on the day. Take a deep breath and call them.

DameDiazepamTheDramaQueen · 02/07/2015 17:03

Your make up is far better than hers. You don't need her. I did my own and was so pleased with it. It was before the days of setting spray, I had to crumple a wet tissue and blot my powder to make it last the day - and it didGrin

I cancelled mine the day before my wedding, I hated what they did but honestly forgot to call. I think I just told them it was a timing issue with cars and photographers and wouldn't have time and would have to do my own. They were fine.

You look gorgeous with your own make up.

The professional one reminds me of waking up with a bad hangover and make up sliding off your eyes.

Report
OttiliaVonBCup · 02/07/2015 17:58

You are doing a good job yourself.

Just make sure you use good primers so the make up stays on nicely and you're good to go.

Maybe a bit more blusher, but that's it.
