What do you think of these People Tree dresses?

I'm looking for some summer dresses to wear to work (dress code smart casual) and maybe on the weekends if I'm doing something nice.

I came across these on People Tree and am worried about looking a bit twee...

I'm early thirties and have a big bust and am carrying a bit of extra weight on my belly at the moment. 5ft4, size 12, apple shaped I think.

I'm hoping to narrow it down to one or two so any opinions would be gratefully received, thanks

I like the first and last dresses. I think they fit the "smart casual " category.

Letmegetanamechange · 02/07/2015 12:13

Like dress 1, love dress 5, dress 2 I'm not keen on because of the shoulders, dress 3 and 4 I can't see. The links won't work for some reason Confused

NomiMalone · 02/07/2015 12:18

The links to 3 and 4 don't work.

Like the shape of 1 but really dislike the fabric.

Hate 2.

Again, the shape of 5 is OK and the teal is a pretty colour but the novelty cat print is a no for me.

AngelWings74 · 02/07/2015 12:20

I love number one and five.

APlaceOnTheCouch · 02/07/2015 12:23

I like 1. I quite like 2 but it would depend on how the shoulders and neckline looked when it was on. I love the colour of 5 but dislike the cat pattern for work.

ItsAllGoodMan · 02/07/2015 12:34

Sorry about the links ... hopefully they'll work now

Thinking about it now, dress 4 might be a bit too wedding guest?

Agree about the cat print dress... really need to stop being tempted by novelty prints!

Love dress 3! Dress 4 is a really nice shape but not too sure about the pattern or colours.

Bunbaker · 02/07/2015 12:52

Dresses 1, 3 and 5 do it for me.

Pagalee · 02/07/2015 12:55

I like 1 and 5 - nice shape, look like they'll feel cool. Also like 3, nice fabric.

Hullygully · 02/07/2015 12:58

1 and 3 like shape of 5 but not cats

EElisavetaOfBelsornia · 02/07/2015 13:00

I like 1 and love 5.

Gatekeeper · 02/07/2015 13:02

1,3 and 5

MelanieCheeks · 02/07/2015 13:03

3 is my favourite - nice flattering shape, and a versatile print that would work in many situations.

woodleydoodle · 02/07/2015 13:11

I like the cat print one.

SoupDragon · 02/07/2015 13:14

I like 1, 3 and 5 but I do think the cat print takes it past smart-casual into just casual.

stripytees · 02/07/2015 13:59

I like the flared ones the most, so that's 1, 3 and 5.

Saying that, I find People Tree dresses are mostly designed for straight figures. Even as a size 10 elsewhere I've often found a People Tree 12 too tight, or the proportions generally all wrong i.e. too tight in one place and way too loose in another. Also their sizing is quite inconsistent in general, I've had trousers from there in a 10 that were huge and others in a 12 that didn't do up at all.

I want to like them but I'm just disappointed every time I buy from there.

NKfell · 02/07/2015 14:07

4 is my favourite, I like 1 and I do like 5 but I don't like cats!I don't like 2 or 3.

nannyplumislostinspace · 02/07/2015 16:38

I like 1 and 3

Sometimesjustonesecond · 02/07/2015 20:26

1 and 5 are lovely

ItsAllGoodMan · 02/07/2015 20:36

I ordered 1 and 3 in the end. That's interesting about People Tree sizing stripytees, I've never bought from them before

Also, what is your colouring? I think, from your description, you'd suit a V neck, so not dress 2, but dresses 4 and 5 would suit very diferent skin tones / hair colour so it's difficultt to judge.

Darkchocsprinkles · 02/07/2015 21:05

Love People Tree.

Yes, their sizing can be a little variable but imho that's a small price to pay for beautiful, ethical clothing.

Hope you like your choices OP!!

TripTrapTripTrapOverTheBridge · 02/07/2015 21:25

1,3 and 5 are the best. I love the colour of 5 but I'm not a cat fan, still very pretty though. Although I don't think it could pass as a fully casual dress but hey ho!

slightlyeggstained · 03/07/2015 12:14

It's worth having a look at reviews for any comments on sizing. Haven't found it too bad myself, but I've only bought dresses from them.

My only complaint is that fewer of their dresses have decent pockets now! Still better than most though.

pinkfrocks · 03/07/2015 12:48

I've ordered and am returning 4 PT dresses and have re-ordered another style - no. 1 here.

I found them very small fitting- I went for straight shift/ bodycon styles originally and even a 10 was tight compared to other brands. Also the fabric was a bit odd- the cotton / lycra mix had a strange almost waxy finish on the wrong side and felt very stiff. Not at all comfortable for a hot day.
