cardigans and /or alternatives to cardigans

HarveySpectre · 01/07/2015 19:02

i used to love cardigans. But now im a bit older and frumpy, they seem to accentuate that

any bright ideas. Im a fashion/style numpty and dont have any disposable time for trawling the shops

i like the look of a denim jacket over a dress for example. But need something cooler for the summer. And something smarter for work. And something not denim to wear with jeans!!

TIA

Bumping for you

smugmumofboys · 01/07/2015 19:48

have this and the same one in navy and white stripes. 65% cotton so quite cool and the stripey on has had lots of compliments. People have been surprised it was only £22.99.

Sorry about typos.

I have a lovely jersey blazer from Joules that I wear to avoid double denim. It can look dressy (I wore it to a job interview last week) but can also look very casual as soft and relatively unstructured.

smugmumofboys · 01/07/2015 20:18

What size if that's not a rude question?

littlesupersparks · 01/07/2015 20:23

I wear a denim shirt over everything :-)

Linen jackets are a great option for summer too.

MegMogandOwlToo · 01/07/2015 21:53

The new look Blazers come up large - I have that one in coral and had to size down

GilbertBlytheWouldGetIt · 01/07/2015 21:56

I've started wearing a checked shirt over jeans and t shirt. It looks very grungy, I like it.

this kind of thing

Sleepyfergus · 01/07/2015 21:58

Try H&M so similar soft structured blazers. I have 3 (navy, pale grey, black) I use a lot and they were only £25 each. Can be smart or casual.

JaceLancs · 01/07/2015 22:43

I wear linen shirts as jackets
At moment I have white, pale blue, navy, Aqua, a pinky lilac and a peach colour
That and denim shirts in various colours work best for my shape and style

Twinklestar2 · 02/07/2015 09:35

I wear blazers. Try Primark. I actually got a lovely dotty Primark one off ebay.

smugmumofboys · 02/07/2015 11:32

Sorry. Was up late sewing and then only just logged on. I'd agree with whoever said they come up large. Try the 14.

HarveySpectre · 02/07/2015 11:54

Up late sewing?

Life on the edge huh?!

I agree with the poster who suggested cardigans can accentuate age and frumpiness. I'd love to find an alternative to cardigans that I could wear in the office, I could never sit at my desk in a jacket, we're quite a casual office, but sometimes you need an extra layer.

Twinklestar2 · 02/07/2015 12:39

Petal you can get casual blazers

smugmumofboys · 02/07/2015 12:47

Costume for DS2's end of year 6 production.

He has rather exacting standards, shall we say. You'd think he was performing on Broadway!

Bananasandchocolatecustard · 02/07/2015 23:50

I was not impressed by the New Look blazer, it is really thin and floppy.

missmoon · 03/07/2015 08:45

I have a couple of these cotton jackets/ blazers from Jigsaw, great quality and still in excellent shape after four years. They are pricier at £49 but go with everything: mobile.jigsaw-online.com/products/cotton-flame-jacket-10857

Sorry but I will not tolerate mindless cardigan abuse.

I love a round neck, fitted, buttoneed up cardi with a full 50s skirt.
Or a cropped one, unbuttoned over a dress.
Or a long one (and I mean long, not thigh length) with skinnies.
