flattering shorts for a plus size shorter lady?

Hi oh wondrous S&B gurus, I am on the search for reasonably priced flattering shorts, ideally in a darker colour (tmi moment - three kids too close together, minor leakage on laughing coughing ya da ya da) size 18-22 and I am only 5 ft 2. Not keen on denim as assuming that would be quite hot to wear? Cullotes look good but I remember them being hideously unfashionable when I was younger and really don't want to humiliate my children by wearing a real no-no.....

Oh and am on a diet so ones I could wear with a belt as I loose weight maybe, or something I could adjust on my trusty sewing machine? Just want a idea of what I should be going for really as I just don't have a clue

i wouldn't do shorts. I'm your height & size 12 and shorts would do nothing for me. white stuff have lovely skirts in their sale right now. if you're set on shorts, i'll bow out!

I just though shorts would be more practical for dog walking gardening etc, and would mean no chub rub either maybe. Will look at that website though thank you

Try the next chino shorts - they come in different colours and can be rolled up or down.

dotty P's - cheap, 100% cotton, nice length, flattering. I have every colour!

they do petite and long too, and also have a linen version now too!

I'm not plus size, but I am pg at the moment and much bigger than usual - I have some culotte-style ones from Gap in dark grey that are really comfy and flattering.
They're a silky ish fabric, elasticated waist, and really swishy and lightweight. Will try and find link....

I am a similar size to you but maybe a touch taller and I wouldn't consider anything over the knee. You lose all the balance in your outfit and just look dumpy (well I do). I would go for something round lower calf level but very light to keep you cool still. I have some nice ones from fat face but they are a few years old so not sure what they have this year. Lots of choice about though.sorry not to be more help.

You could try bhs. They have elastic acted shorts in varying materials in all colours. I was skeptical but like you am short and size 18 and had lots of choice. They also have a petite range but I needed to go up a size. I'm really pleased with mine

I saw some in asda the other day, they were the same sort of material as combat trousers, but shorts with a turn up and elasticated bit at the back. They looked as if they would be quite flattering and came in black and other dark colours.

They would look good with birkies.

The reason I didn't buy any was because they only had sizes 18 and 20, I needed a 12 :/ when I was overweight I could never find anything in the size I needed and now Iv lost the weight I still can't find anything!

I also would never wear shorts and am a 16 in bottoms. I do like cropped trousers though and wear them when dog walking.

I just bought some from peacocks 8 pounds. They are printed pattern various colours, look like a skirt but actually shorts. They are swishy, not tailored and have elasticated waist. I'm wearing them with a vest and cardigan, pretty much what I would wear with a skirt. They are above my knee,but not much and I suspect they would be a bit longer on you as I am 5.5

I didn't think of chub rub. sorry. I guess I can see that shorts aren't impractical for dog-walking! we all have our own 'code' for dressing! I'm like Dexter there. Shorts are a no no for me, there's a voice in my head saying don't do it! occasionally, I see a pair that tempts me, say, tapered, denim blue with a very thin pin stripe and I think that could be elegant with a white v-neck jumper ......... but no.

Try asos curve section, they have all different styles and lengths there too

Thanks for this thread the polka dot yours ones are just what I'm looking for for work and the the dp ones will be great for my holiday!

I'm just under 5 foot 4 and a 16-18 on the bottom. I happily wear both mid calf cropped trousers and shorts that sit just above my knee. Both look fine IMO.

I've got denim ones which aren't particularly hot if loose fitting. DP and Next both do none denim chino style ones.
