I'm 40 and going to a barn dance to celebrate a wedding anniversary. I have no idea what to wear. Any suggestions?

A summer frock you can dance in. Flat shoes ( unless you are used to dancing in heels).

Start with the shoes (flat, non-slippy, that won't fall off) and work from there. A skirt or dress with lots of movement would be good. Jeans-and-check-shirt is probably too informal.

thank you. I think I can manage that.????

A considerable number will wear jeans and a check shirt, but personally, I find you always get hot at a barn dance so I prefer a summery dress but some comfy/flat shoes/sandals that you can move in.

I once wore some high heeled mules to a barn dance. Never again. Comfy shoes are a necessity.

Any frock recommendations? I don't own any. it would need to be long as I have varicose veins. On a tight budget too, but the sales are on. I am tall, size 12 and dark haired.

Well just wear some 'lighter weight' trousers and a blouse / top.

the point is, it doesn't have to be formal, but I suggest it's not too heavy / weighty as you'll get hot.
