coconut oil

[Gingermum]

I've started using this as a body moisturiser in the mornings. The coconutty smell disappears quickly and my limbs feel very soft and smooth. I also slapped some onto my dry hair last week. It washed out easily and now my hair is proper swishy.

Cheap as chips too.

Love it on my bid and hair, but on my face it just makes many many spots

It also clogs my skin up but agree it's great for the hair, I also use it for oil pulling and to make almond butter. So many uses for it.

What else can it be used for?

My mum bought me some at the weekend and OH thought the oil pulling was hilarious

Where do you get it from cheaply ? We bought some in Topshop and it cost £10.

what kind/where's best to buy it from? I fancy trying it again and my last lot from amazon is long in the bin! I can't use it on my face but think my hair might benefit from it now it's hughlighted.

I only buy organic but it's easily available from Tesco or Sainsburys for around a fiver. Non organic is obviously less expensive.

I use the good stuff (Sainsbury's £6 a jar) cook with, heats up really quickly and makes roast potatoes/parsnips taste amazing ;)

Other than that I use the cheaper stuff (about £4 a jar on Amazon) on my hair and to make an exfoliant for my lips (with sugar).

I ordered a large tub from Amazon - Extra Virgin (whatever that means) Raw Organic Coconut Oil - 500ml for 8.99. Zara sorry to hear about your clogging experiences. I mix it with castor oil to take off makeup.

I'm sure I've heard about it being used to whiten teeth too! You swill it round your mouth for about twenty seconds. Can't say this appeals much but I'd be interested to hear of any Mumsnetter whose done it?

I've done oil pulling with it but you swill it round your mouth for 20 mins not seconds! It did make my teeth feel cleaner but it's not a substitute for brushing and flossing.

Did it make your teeth whiter Destinysdaughter ?

I only did it 4 times and they felt cleaner afterwards but not white. Think you have to persevere but it made me feel a bit sick!

I use it on hair/ scalp before swimming- but I find it builds up and can make hair lank and lifeless after a bit so need to use a good shampoo to rinse out, which sometimes defeats the purpose. However it made my daughters (6) hair beautiful and shiny and swishy (she has amazing hair anyway ).
I be heard it used as an overnight treatment to get rid of nits - which was why I tried it on dd - it worked bit this might have been in combo with the several other treatments we tried....
Tbh I think it s not a great body moisturiser but I have a friend who swears by it for her sensitive eczema / dermatitis prone skin and also uses it for a baby bottom cream.....
