Am currently locked out of my own house...DD2 bringing back the keys she borrowed. But she got a merit in Grade 5 trumpet so is in my good books, despite dropping marks on scalesWinkGrin.

Rosebag · 23/07/2015 17:56

Fantastic result MI Good on DD! Hope you are now back in to the house…

Herbs Is the hair long enough just to go over it with the straighteners to calm down the bouffiness?

A two hour presentation and tour around the maternity unit in the North Central London area, went on for nearly another 2 hours. Largely due to newly qualifieds asking too many inane questions Angry. I had to eat a very large piece of carrot cake on the way home as compensation for no lunch, which I will presumably live to regret when I step on the scales on Monday…and I have pissed off my beautician by writing my pre holiday "bits" maintenance in the diary for tomorrow when it was, in fact today… Hmm Clearly losing it, finally Confused

motherinferior · 23/07/2015 18:27

I have had a small panic, now over, over a phone call about "your gynae appointment tomorrow". All now solved. And I don't have one. I am, for very obvious reasons, totally irrational about gynae stuff at the moment. The instant I get involved all the calm rationality I've preserved in my mum's meetings just vanishes and I am a gibbering, and I'm afraid very impolite, wreck.

herbaceous · 23/07/2015 18:41

Had my regular boob-squeezing procedure today which - unlike anything else NHS-related - was efficient and quick. Most peculiar, is it not, to have your boob squashed flat by a giant machine, while you cuddle up to it.

cremolafoam · 23/07/2015 19:19

It is Herbs, it is. I had one last month which here is done free by local charity If you are between 41-55 so very nicely carried out indeed. But I fing
D it very uncomfortable , and a little odd being hauled about pre-squashing.Confused

Have taken the poor cat to the VET. God, talk about stressful. Poor Cremcat wailed the whole way, then behaved like a model puss in Front of vet, then went so silent on the drive home I had to stop the car and make sure he was still alive.AngrySad

Infuriatingly the weather here is so cold I am unable to open the new bifolds.and find I have nothing unsummery to wear. Warm socks excepted.

MrsSchadenfreude · 23/07/2015 20:19

I've never had a mammogram. I rang them up, and they told me quite arsily that mine was due in December. I thought I should have had one by now, being well old.

Stropperella · 23/07/2015 20:57

Am back from camping trip to Devon with 4 other families. There were about 20 of us in total and all the dcs were 10 and under. Dh and I were the old farts of the party, with no one else there even within sniffing distance of 50. Ds had a super fab time and the adults all managed to have a pretty good time too. Meanwhile, back at home, dd was left to her own devices for 3 nights. Animals are all still alive, although the dog appears more neurotic than normal. The bin is full ( and I mean FULL) of vodka bottles and beer bottles, the kitchen floor is weirdly sticky and someone appears to have been in our bed with their shoes on. Hmm

NUFC69 · 23/07/2015 20:59

A van arrives in the village every three years and we're called - it's all very efficient. An elderly ex nurse I know always pops in when she sees it as she is too old to be called; one year they picked up a lump.... Lesson from this, continue on with the mammograms even when you're officially over the hill.

MI, well done to DD. We all love fish fingers here, and cheese on toast is another favourite.

I have been baking in preparation for all my visitors: MrsS's Almond and Poppy Seed cake, Victoria Sandwich and a Bara Brith. Over the weekend I need to make a pavlova, a Charlotte Malakoff and Caribbean Chicken for four.

I hope the holidays are going well for all those away and that everyone is still talking to their DHs, DPs and DC.

Hatty, I am waking up at about 1.30 am for a couple of hours every night atm, so I sympathise with your disturbed nights. I do find that it helps me to have a glass of water at the side of the bed.

MollyAir · 23/07/2015 21:02

I might as well tell y'all now that I decline mammograms, although I am very good at self-checks. I'm that way inclined on medical matters, and I'm glad to have the choice.

I'm confessing it now because I spend many anguished hours in my book club while they all moan about how horrid mammograms are; I sit there saying nothing, because I know they would give me absolute bloody hell if I owned up. Tis not really a spirit of openness and honesty, however, so I've resolved never to put myself in that daft situation again. Each to her own, I say.

NUFC69 · 23/07/2015 21:03

Cross post, Stropps. Your Devon break sounds lovely, shoes in the bed and empty vodka bottles less so. Am a bit puzzled why nobody had the sense to get rid of the evidence.

Stropperella · 23/07/2015 21:11

Because they are all a bunch of hungover teenage numpties, NU Grin
I have not yet been offered a mammo. Apparently, next time the van pitches up, I will be called, but I might be about 54 by that stage. I do not 'get'the whole van business, as there is a massive big hospital down the road and I thought I would have just got summoned there at 50, but no. My GP told me to stop fussing when I asked.

MollyAir · 23/07/2015 21:18

If you wait long enough, Stropps, Jeremy Hunt will have made sure all the machines are new, shiny ones. Smile Sounds like your hol was a success!

herbaceous · 23/07/2015 21:41

I love the way radio and TVJournalists all over-pronounce the H in Jeremy HHHUnt.

MollyAir · 23/07/2015 22:09

Do you think that "mistake" on the Today Prog really was one?

herbaceous · 23/07/2015 23:03

Maybe it's the real reason the Tories want to get rid of the beeb.

MollyAir · 23/07/2015 23:18

Grin Yeah, that one thing dunnit.

CointreauVersial · 23/07/2015 23:23

Did I mention he was a uni friend of mine? Nice chap, actually maybe a little bland

The tent is back up, with DD2 and best mate snuggled up watching Netflix.

MollyAir · 23/07/2015 23:29

Not a cunt at all, then? Shock

Can I just recommend Carol Ann Duffy's play "Everyman" ? It's honestly blimmin brilliant. It's on at cinemas if you can't make it to the National Theatre. I am hard to please theatrically, as well. We went yesterday and were stunned.

bigTillyMint · 24/07/2015 00:06

Hi Crepsters! Got free wifi in Auckland airport whilst waiting for the flight to Christchurch. Have used 25mons reading the thread!
Flights were Ok - got bulkhead seats on first 13 hours AND salted caramel ice cream!!! Got about 4 hours sleep in total on flights, then about another 4 in hotel last night as we were in a family room and when DS stopped tossing and turning, DD started!

Glad to heat your house is still standing Stropps and that your DC are having a good time Beachy! Love QQs lunch ideas - there is never anything in the fridge according to DD. Love the hair Herbs. Hi to everyone - will post again on next free wifi!

bigTillyMint · 24/07/2015 03:11

So DHs best mate surprised us all at the airport - was fab to see him and get a ride to the house whilst DH picked up the bright blue station - wagonGrin which will be our wheels for the next month. It's a beautiful blue - sky sunny winters day and we have wifi. Life is good!

NUFC69 · 24/07/2015 06:22

Your wheels sound lovely, BTM. Glad to hear that the flights went ok; I will enjoy hearing about NZ and your travels.

Regarding the mammogram van, I for one am glad that it comes to our village, otherwise it's a 11 mile trip in the car, followed by a half an hour search for a parking spot in Newcastle city centre. We're almost always given the option of hospital appointments in either Newcastle or Northumberland and never voluntarily go to the city for medical matters.

A bit grey here and I don't think we'll be having breakfast in the garden this morning- weather sounds grim down sowf.

Blackduck · 24/07/2015 06:53

Hi all, in Dar El Salaam domestic terminal..... Which whilst a she'd does have wi fi. Two flights down, one to go - feeling reasonably okay considering we left at 14.30 on Thursday and landed at 5.45 Friday..... Actually managed to sleep on plane.
Egyptair win the prize as the most monosyllabic aircrew ever, but inflight meal surprisingly good (spicy chickpeas and rice Grin). Will be off grid until Sunday/Monday.

hattymattie · 24/07/2015 08:15

Wow - BD and BTM - you two have amazing destinations - happy touring.

Apparently, Crepeys the weather is on the turn in the UK - do I take the summer clothes out of the case? - headed for Devon tomorrow.

I have avoided mammogram for ages as the last one hurt so much - lots of telling off from the gynae. I need to make an appointment in August.

Had an antihistamine so more or less slept last night. Gave me the energy to sort things out today. Will by some Nytal? in Boots when I come over.

motherinferior · 24/07/2015 08:57

Have conducted third Ladysplash of the week (weather looked too grim for a Ladyjog) bringing the total of this week's early-morning exercise sessions to four. Must put words on page.

NUFC69 · 24/07/2015 09:34

Always helps if you can doze/sleep, BD. Can't wait to hear all about your exciting trip. I can't advise you about Devon, Hatty, but the temperature here is about 17 degrees and I can go out comfortably in a short sleeved t-shirt, although I did swear a couple of years ago that it was colder in Devon than oop North.

MI, have swum twice and done Aquafit once so am feeling virtuous this week - will go to the gym and for another swim later. DH is going out for the day with his mates so peace at home.
