Viscose clothes seem to smell weird - anyone else?

I'm really perplexed about this! I recently bought some maternity clothes from isabella oliver and jojo maman bebe - they are all in a thick Jersey type fabric, made from viscose.

This is the weird part - I washed everything before wearing, and it all stinks! It isn't my machine or liquid as all my other washing is and always has been fine - it's just this particular load. It's so bad I don't think I can wear it. Has anyone else experienced this? Is there a solution?

It's like a sweet damp smell if that helps, and they smelt that way as soon as I took them out of the machine, with the smell getting worse now on drying.

Yes! It does. But it goes away when they are dry. I have a white stuff dress that does it.

Yes I have noticed it too. I think Next smells of it.

Hi there l bought a high end label dress and have now washed it twice.....but the odour still remains after the 2nd wash...it is such a weird odour ...l too feel l cannot wear it....l found out that viscose is actually made from bamboo...and l think this sort of vegetable musky smell must be the remnants left in the processing of the material.....honestly when you pay hundreds for a dress you at least want to wear it a few times..never again will l buy viscose. .and no wonder they recommend dry cleaning..so as to not wet the garment with water.
