I know it's been done. Sorry. Please dress me for a ball!

I have to go to a ball with DH - networking for him. You may guess by my tone that it's not my thing.

However, I will attempt to enjoy it if you will help dress me. I am generally unglamorous, size 8, 5'6'', short hair, almost 40. Colouring is 'winter'. The ball is in July.
I'm crap with heels, accessories, anything really.

Would anyone like to go instead of me? DH scrubs up well in his dinner suit.

This is lovely and summery and would look great with a pair of gold strappy sandals.

Pantsalive · 21/06/2015 22:37

You could get heels like this if you didn't want to go too high, as they won't really be seen. These are wide fit so might not be the right fit.

AWimbaWay · 22/06/2015 13:47

I don't think you necessarily have to go with a long dress, the last ball I went to people were wearing a real variety of styles, just go for what you know suits you and makes you feel comfortable.

If you give us an idea of what you like, long, short, colour, fitted, flared etc it would help narrow it down a bit.

coast on ebay

Asleeponasunbeam · 22/06/2015 18:36

I like that coast one but I think it might be a bit clingy for me.

I don't suit flared or floaty dresses, fitted and straight are better. My legs are not my redeeming feature (don't know what is though!) so the opportunity for a long dress is nice.

I am rubbish at accessorising too but have a nice new necklace (delicate, silver) bought as a present that I'd like to wear.

This one is a bit different. Although it is chiffon, the stripes make it look much more structured. It would look great with your DH in a dinner suit.

Pantsalive · 22/06/2015 19:27

How brave are you feeling? Smile

Amanda Wakeley

Another coast

AWimbaWay · 22/06/2015 19:44

Too expensive?

HeyDuggee · 22/06/2015 19:50

Oooo, I remember rummaging through Amanda W in Selfridges long while back and her stuff was in the £600-800 range! That's a bloody ebay bargain

AWimbaWay · 22/06/2015 19:58

I think she does a cheaper range too, but even if it was that range (no idea!) I'm sure it'd still be far more than that.

Thanks for all the suggestions. Nothing quite right yet. I'm not brave enough for the pink, pantsalive!

Do Coast come up big or small? I'm size 8 in Phase Eight. Haven't worn Coast since well before having children!

I think a lot of the non-floaty dresses end up looking like bridesmaid dresses.

Not sure if anyone has suggested this Coast one. It's over budget but rather nice. You should be able to sell in on afterwards.

Pantsalive · 22/06/2015 22:44

Have you looked on Little Mistress?

This is very elegant and quite similar to RedRosie's

Pantsalive · 22/06/2015 23:00

Or anything on Chi Chi London? I'm not sure of the quality but they do free returns.

I'm stopping now ...

DakotaFanny · 22/06/2015 23:04

I think Coast tend to be small, but very sellable afterwards.

Pantsalive · 22/06/2015 23:06

Ted Baker

Really stopping now.
