8 year old dd getting spots! What to use?

She is in no other way reaching puberty, but keeps getting spots on her chin and sides of her nose. They are big and yellow and she says they are painful. I am not sure if this is because she sucks her thumb so these areas are getting sweaty. Currently she doesn't really wash her face - just a wet flannel am and pm, but I am wondering if she should. Any advice very welcome.

Medicated face wash, I bought some for my DS, clearasil etcmaybe too harsh, I found one in Asda for teen skin which is quite good. There will be dearer ones but can't help there.

Witchazel is also very good if you want to go down a more natural route.

When she's thinking or listening does she rest her chin in her hand?
Your theory about the thumb sucking sounds a good starting point.

She doesn't really rest her chin on her hand, but loves sucking her thumb. We can stop this during the day, but pretty sure she sucks it through the night. I shall try some mild face wash as suggested. Thanks for the advice.

If you want to stop her sucking her thumb, buy some of the bitter nail varnish you can get to stop biting your nails. I was a thumb sucker as a child, ended up with braces and one thumb over 1cm shorter!!

I would he really wary of using any products on her face.

are you sure they bare spots, not bites or an infection.

does her skin look " greasy"? I'm wondering too of it could be down to the thumb sucking introducing dirt

I would be careful about using products on her skin but Ds has used the Asda young skin face wash for a couple of years as he gets spots where his glasses and hearing aid sit and it is brilliant. Very mild but does the job.

I would use warm water and a clean flannel every day no products at this age, also I'd be reminding about hand washing especially as she's a thumb sucker as she's probably touching her face with dirty fingers.

My DD is a bit older and does a lot of sports and musical instruments like flute etc resulting in quite a grimy face. Started with wet flannel morning and evening but we have moved on to an Avene cleanser. Just the really gentle one for extra sensitive skin. It seems to be working.

I had though about a micellar water type cleanser as she is a bit slapdash with the flannel in the mornings but don't know if they are quite harsh.
