Wedding make up - recommendations please!

I'm getting married in August, and I've decided to do my own make up rather than get a MUA. Mostly because for the money they cost I expect to look AMAZING... but just end up looking like a different version of myself, with more make-up on.

So - dark brown hair (will be in a messy up-do on the day). Yellowish skin - very oily t-zone, normal rest of the face. Dark brown eyes.

I have Estée Lauder DW in Dawn, which is a great match and doesn't melt off my face within an hour. But it's semi-matte so I think I need a good highlighter for my cheeks. I've got no idea about highlighters, so don't know where to start!

I love Urban Decay eye primer (very oily kids) and I recently bought the naked 2 palette, so will probably do a goldy/smokey eye. Strong eyeliner (I wear liquid everyday. Look weird without it) and natural false lashes.

I'd also love recommendations for lip colours/brands that last more than half an hour, and possibly a nice blush too?

congratulations! When I got married last summer, about a month before I had an appointment with an Estee Lauder lady. she did me up really nicely and taught me lots about recreating, and knew her stuff when it came to longevity etc for make up on the day. I didn't buy everything from her! but got a couple of bits especially where the colour would be hard to match, and used my own foe other bits (eyeliner/mascara etc)

I did my own - cheapy Rimmel lippy with Lipcote on top and lasted all day.

For more sensible suggestions I more or less copied a look from a Lisa Eldridge video - I never wear makeup and she made it v easy.

Lipcote - do they still make that?! I remember my Nan always having it when I was a child (prob 20-odd years ago) but I haven't seen it anywhere in years. It actually works? I've tried those lipfinities and the maybeline long-lasting one, but they seem to wear from the inside quickly and leave me looking like I'm just wearing lip liner! Not a good look...

Maybe I'll go back to the counter and ask for a demo? They just always seem a bit scary

Def go to the counter it's not so bad! A slightly older lady did me which was much less intimidating!

For long lasting lip on the day she told me to fill in my whole lips with liner before applying lippy - not good for them every day but fine as a one off! then some gloss in the centre to add shine without stickiness.

I did my own aswell (and my three bridesmaids) I wanted to look subtle but glowing, went to a few counter ladies and settled on channel. They did me a demo wrote down instructions and threw in a bunch of freebies. I looked and felt amazing on the day. My sis did the same but liked the Clinique look the best. You don't need to buy everything, you already have a foundation you love if your looking for something more dramatic go to mac or for golden and subtle you can't beat bobbi brown.

I had the exact same feeling after the pro MUA trial I had - didn't look better, just completely different and loaded with heavy makeup that looked like it'd slide off after a few hours. I too decided to do my own and was definitely the best plan. If you haven't already, I'd strongly recommend an afternoon on YouTube watching a load of wedding makeup videos - I got all of my product ideas from there, in terms of both technical advice on what to do to make everything stay on longer, and also colour and blending techniques for eyes. I got the Naked 2 palette as well - it's recommended by loads of the videos. I also did a Bobbi brown wedding makeup trial to pick out the right foundation, blusher and lipstick colours. Good luck!

Congratulations! Yes, do book a makeup lesson - well worth it! Bobbi Brown or Trish McEvoy are great for a natural look...you should end up looking like you, but at your very best! Re wedding lips...I had similar advice to RevealTheHiddenBeach, from an Estee Lauder lady. Lipliner all over lips, blot, add lipliner again, blot again then add a light dab of lipstick or gloss. Estee Lauder lipliner crayons have good colours, and cover well, with excellent staying power. If you are doing your own you can have fun practising, and get a look you are happy with.

I used lipfinity from maxfactor, it's amazing and stayed on all day, just remember to take the little balm/gloss thing with you because it can feel quote dry without it

I do wedding makeup in my spare time. Be careful that your foundation doesn't contain SPF as the flash reacts badly with it.

I typically use:
Laura Mercier primer
Giorgio Armani foundation
Lancome concealer
Bourjois powder
Bobbi Brown Slopes blush
Bobbi Brown bronzer
Bobbi Brown eyeshadow in grey and brow gel in grey for eyebrows

Urban Decay eye primer
MAC eyeshadows - normally a shimmery bronze coloured one with a matte brown one and a pale shimmery one for the inside corner (also useful for an all round highlighter)
Bobbi Brown gel eyeliner
Any waterproof mascara
Bobbi Brown nude pink lipstick with a small amount of gloss, filling in lips with liner initially and blot.

As you can see, Bobbi Brown products are pretty popular. They give a great neutral makeup look.
