Thigh chaffing, what is the solution?

Zanzibaragain · 13/06/2015 09:17

It's hot and humid, I want to wear a pretty floaty dress not german hausfrau shorts or boring boring boring linen draw string trousers this summer.

I have tried antiperspirant, hairspray, lanacane, talcum powder, and some specialist stuff for surfers.

I don't want to wear Spanx but something similar in a lighter less suffocating and strangulating style would be great.

Any ideas

I've done the bra intervention, but my boobs are huge - k cup with a 36 back. The panty liner trick sounds fab, will be trying that.

sacbina · 13/06/2015 19:53

ignore pinkfrocks, have seen her post on other threads and her only contribution has been to say lose weight - but claims she it's a not weight obsessed. bit of a one trick pony!

leedy · 13/06/2015 20:12

I too get thigh chafe at any weight if it's hot/humid enough.

I've found Sloggi bike shorts style cotton knickers are deeply unattractive but WEP in hot countries: www.justsloggi.co.uk/sloggi-longs-brief

Degustibusnonestdisputandem · 13/06/2015 20:15

Anyone who suggests losing weight is a twat. I have narrow hips and unless I'm around 8.5 stone (at 5'9"), I get thigh chafing Shock. YY to those who've suggested longer knickers, I've got a few pairs

angeltreats · 13/06/2015 20:18

Bandelettes (sp?) are great. I expected them to ride up but they don't budge at all. I think I got mine from Etsy. And I'm another pear shape who still got thigh chafe at size 8.

Haven't read the whole thread but I have recently discovered these and found them very good. In fact I think they were recommended on a previous Mumsnet thread on this subject.

Bombinate · 13/06/2015 20:31

I use sure stick deodorant and it works well.

Bombinate · 13/06/2015 20:32

Fat shaming again pink? You must have ishoos, you were poisonous on the bikini thread too.

mimiasovitch · 13/06/2015 20:33

Bodyglide is the shizzle. I can vouch for this after one year having almost blistered inner thighs, and not having had to suffer it since, no matter how much I walk in the heat. I never fancy the longer knickers, in case a freak gust of wind flashes them. I work on a seafront, and it can get rather breezy at times.

Kundry · 13/06/2015 22:46

Another vote for Bodyglide. Never had any chafing ever since starting to use it. Plus totally invisible and doesn't involve wearing more stuff in the heat.

greenbottleglass · 13/06/2015 22:52

The evans shorts have changed my life! Will try the sloggis though

PeppermintInfusion · 14/06/2015 00:30

I got the h&m lace trim ones, they are great and just a nice thickness for hotter days. The lace trim takes the bad look off them should they be flashed.

I have thigh rub no matter what size I've been (from 12-18). It is partly due to carrying weight on thighs, as they always look chubby on inner thigh no matter how much I try to tone. Also a chiro I went to a few years ago said it is to do with how you walk, hip alignment etc as well, something that I've had issues with.

PeppermintInfusion · 14/06/2015 00:31

Also use cut up natural tights if you are wearing something a bit shorter

I have used bandalettes on our last holiday to New York over summer. I wanted to walk round in skirts but knew all that walking I would get chaffing. I bought two pairs, one black and one white and they were great! I got them straight from the company and they were here in a few days, even from America. Took a little bit of getting used to but they don't budge and I'll be using them again this summer especially since I'm expecting. And btw to those suggesting weight loss, I am a size 10-12 and always had this issue. Hope you find your solution.

I know lunch I thought about that after I posted Smile

greenbottleglass · 14/06/2015 10:20

Well I was in London yesterday sweating buckets. Was very humid and horrid! Plenty of opportunity for a bit of thigh chafe

imsorryiasked · 14/06/2015 10:32

I have some m&s 95% cotton long knickers in "nude" and they are great.

NoRockandRollFun · 14/06/2015 10:49

My solution: culottes

This is ones for you pinkfrocks time.com/3485048/thigh-gap-parody-video/

Udderly Smooth anti chaffing cream. Massive tub for £7 on Amazon.

Changed my life. I now wear dresses and skirts all summer and walk as long as I like. Impossible to do before and it is lovely not to have to layer up in the heat. Lanacane antichaff was pretty good but the Udderly one is better IME and cheaper.

They seem to market it to sports people/athletes so it's a bit under the radar.

LovelyFriend · 14/06/2015 11:07

It is also good for underboob issues. Can be used anywhere really.

One tub lasts me 2 years

LovelyFriend · 14/06/2015 11:12

Udderly anti chaff is also totally invisible. I actually couldn't see how it would work when it first arrived. But it totally does.

I decant into a small container to carry it in handbag but I've never actually had to reapply it in the 2 years I've used it.
