Thigh chaffing, what is the solution?

It's hot and humid, I want to wear a pretty floaty dress not german hausfrau shorts or boring boring boring linen draw string trousers this summer.

I have tried antiperspirant, hairspray, lanacane, talcum powder, and some specialist stuff for surfers.

I don't want to wear Spanx but something similar in a lighter less suffocating and strangulating style would be great.

Any ideas

I agree. My size has ranged from 12-20 over the years and I've ALWAYS had chafing thighs, even when doing lots of sports.

SorrelForbes · 13/06/2015 10:23

I'm a 10/12 and get thigh chaffe when it's really hot. I think it's more to do with the shape of your legs tbh.

ClaraM · 13/06/2015 10:30

There are these specific anti-chafing knickers ! Might give them a go....

Zanzibaragain · 13/06/2015 10:31

Due to my Marilyn Monroe killer curves, my size 14 thighs chaff.
I do not want to lose weight!
I want to wear pretty floral summer dresses.

These are what you need

Notapizzaeater - sudocreme for sore under-boobs

OhtoblazeswithElvira · 13/06/2015 10:41

My thighs don't chafe anymore, now they make a slapping sound when I walk Blush am delighted with this new post-pregnancy development Hmm

Another one that's always had thigh chafing, even at size 8 (am 5'8").

Bunbaker · 13/06/2015 10:44

Selks am I correct in thinking that if you were wearing the correct size of bra you wouldn't get sore under your boobs?

Re the chafing. It is often to do with your basic shape rather than how much weight you carry. I don't have slim thighs Sad, but have quite wide set hips so I have a gap between my thighs. I know people with slimmer thighs than me who suffer from chafing. I think some people might benefit from losing weight, but as has already been pointed out on here, it doesn't always solve the problem.

OhtoblazeswithElvira · 13/06/2015 10:47

That sounded like a stealth boast! l'm actually a size14 now

Shodan · 13/06/2015 10:48

I've found roll on deodorant to be the best, but it needs to be reapplied at intervals. Lanacane was fairly useless, although excellent as a primer under make up.

On my recent holiday I found lots of alcohol was the best for stopping me caring Grin

Wrt to under-boob soreness, notapizzaeater- I cut panty liners in half and stick them under my boobs, on the bra. Change when necessary. (I sweat a LOT) Also anti-perspirant. And talc.

*Am aware that I sound completely delightful, with all this sweat/chafeiness going on Grin

Skeppers · 13/06/2015 10:54

The weight loss thing is a bag of shite, to be frank. I'm overweight, fair enough, but my sister is a very slender size 6-8 and gets thigh chafe; it all depends on your shape and where you carry your weight. Hers is all hips and thighs.

Duh.

These are lifesavers, nice and cool, stop the chaffing but aren't too attractive!

HelenF350 · 13/06/2015 11:25

I used to cut the legs off cheap pairs of thin tights.

CycleChic · 13/06/2015 11:27

cut the legs off holey tights.

CycleChic · 13/06/2015 11:30

hi five, helen!

VolumniaDedlock · 13/06/2015 11:31

i don't think it's a size/weight thing, but more about shape

I'm a proper pear shape, size 16 below the waist and 12 above, with ALL my weight carried on my hips and thunder thighs, but because my pelvis is large and wide set I have no chafe.

NoMilkNoSugar · 13/06/2015 13:41

Not apizzaeater try bra intervention, there's usually a Fred on here about it. I've tried it, gone up two cup sizes but the soreness (and shite gunk) under my boobs has gone.

Selks · 13/06/2015 14:33

I find those Evans 'comfort shorts' horrid - nasty sweaty nylon and far from comfortable. Make a nasty swishy sound when you walk. The Sloggi ones in my link above are cotton, really comfortable and no sweaty swishyness.

pseudonymity · 13/06/2015 14:37

This is meant to be good: www.lush.co.uk/products/silky-underwear

I'm 9 1/2 stone and 5'7" and my thighs rub!

MissDemelzaCarne · 13/06/2015 14:43

I've seen these recommended on here.

dun1urkin · 13/06/2015 14:49

Agreed that a proper fitting bra will deal with underboob rot. I'm a GG and haven't ever had it. And I've got a lot of underboob!
Do you know, I've spent my whole adult life avoiding thigh chafe with my clothing choices. I used to get it really badly as a child at school. So red and sore!
What an idiot I've been! Proper lightbulb moment. I've even got body glide in stock for OW swimming
I think I'll be getting some nice floaty dresses/skirts this summer.

Waxlyrically · 13/06/2015 15:10

Bodyglide is amazing. I'm not particularly overweight but have always had this problem it's to do with the angle of your hips/pelvis. It's completely invisible so can use with shorts swimwear etc. good for breaking in new shoes too!

darkness · 13/06/2015 15:12

Try "udder cream".. I know the name is..s**t and off putting in its own right..but its a well known cyclists thing..its sold on Amazon and it the best thing I've found by a mile..

darkness · 13/06/2015 15:16

Am now checking out glide though..as having udder cream in your handbag is just Blush

StationsAndTrains · 13/06/2015 15:23

My dd (shes 12) gets it - shes not overweight, just the way her legs are built. Poor thing was really suffering on a long walk recently. I was horrified when I saw her skin in the evening. It looke so sore. My sympathy goes out to those who suffer it.

I wonder if it can be corrected by walking differently. Anyone heard of that? she did have physio a few years ago, to sort out some walking issues.

Thanks for above tips on products. I am going to see what she thinks will help.
