Hair bands for fine hair

I got told off by my new hairdresser today for using thin ponytail bands to tie my fine hair up. Apparently using them has left a fluffy line of damaged hair all across she back of my head. Anyone else have this problem and can recommend the best type of hair band? Like an idiot I didn't just ask the hairdresser! Will the thicker type of pony bands be ok or is there a wonder product out there I don't know about?

How about invisibobbles? I have massively thick hair, so they might not help but they're no snag, no line.

Oh, I've not seen those. The thick Scunchi type ones say they are for thick hair so ruled those out but on googling the invisibobble I found a review saying they can be wrapped round twice on fine hair. Might check them out.

I wrap them round a few times in mine and no problems. Even more so in my DCs' hair
