Denim shirt over evening dress?

I'm going to a summer ball later, it will be in a marquee so thinking I'll need some kind of cover up in case it's a bit chilly. I don't really fancy a cardigan, jacket or shawl but was thinking of a denim shirt like this:

Would it be too odd and dressed down?

I think the second one would look great with a denim jacket! Its kind of rock chick. The first one requires a sweet waist length cardigan or a pashmina.
