Not sure if I should be starting the new thread as I'm the last poster on the old one - is this how it works?

OP posts:

BTW hello WitchWithNoName. MrsS is a particular fan of LRP - I've had a couple of not so fab things and some very good.

hattymattie · 03/06/2015 15:22

BTM - Cambs went SDP to Labour. Stuffed with left wing intellectuals (and a few spiesWink).

King Lear - in English although I did notice there is a French performance later in the summer in Paris (I don't think I could cope).

bigTillyMint · 03/06/2015 15:26

Aha Hatty - I knew about the intellectuals and could have guessed about the spies but didn't realise it was Labour!

MrsSchadenfreude · 03/06/2015 16:03

DD1 has been spared the trauma of GCSEs, so I hope she gets her act together and performs adequately in her IB when she does it. I think I shall leave home at that point, when she is doing her IB and DD2 is doing her GCSEs.

I got two crappy A levels and didn't go to university, but I would not hold myself up as a role model (roll model, maybe...) or an example of what one can achieve without a degree. Hmm

We still appear to have fleas and the Shitten crapped in the bath last night and wiped its furry bum on the bathroom floor. I want to throw out absolutely everything and leave home and go and live on my own. The fleas appear to be back as well. This is truly Squalor. I want to go to John Lewis, choose a kitchen and for a nice man or two to come and fit it. I don't want to wait for DBIL to do it and DH to "project manage" it, as it will clearly never happen. (We have been waiting since Christmas for DBIL to bring down our sofa bed that he has been storing in his factory.) And ditto that for the bathrooms and sorting out the rest of the shithole.

motherinferior · 03/06/2015 16:40

Oh god MrsS. Our house is not exactly in great nick but it's not quite that bad.

TheWitchwithNoName · 03/06/2015 16:52

Hi Mother - LRP was always a bit pricey for me but very tempted!

Rosebag · 03/06/2015 16:54

Oh MrsS There are two things you need to lose….Shitten much as you love her… (then the fleas will leave, realising that their meal ticket has been taken away)...and your neighbour, much as you hate him. For the latter, have you considered putting a permanent notice on your front door to the effect of "Do not disturb… fxxk off " And I don't know what you do about the incontinent kitten.
My DH hates doing work on the house and procrastinates for ever. I just have to get scary…shouting, screaming, witchcraft no sex

Flowers Wine xx

herbaceous · 03/06/2015 16:57

Ah, Cambridge. Nice idea, but I forgot to mention my other criterion: must be cheaper than where we are, to produce nice little nest egg. If we moved to central Cambridge, we'd be downsizing but not releasing any money! Exhibit A.

In today's depressing career news, according to all sources I stand very little chance of finding a decent job in further education. It's being savaged, even before the proposed further 24% cuts.

Anyone know anything about those high street education outfits, offering English, GCSEs, etc? Are they all a load of charlatans?

MrsSchadenfreude · 03/06/2015 17:03

The cats don't have fleas, as they are flea treated - I think some must have come in before I did it, and are still here. Will have another spray of the place tomorrow. I just want to get the place sorted. It's not a case of not having the money - we do have the money, it's just a case of apathy, I think. And DH not wanting to spend it...

The neighbour has been outside our flat for most of the day, I think. He now says that his phone is being bugged. This is in addition to the cameras, the people breaking in, stealing his post and spying on him. And he has said no to the sheltered accommodation.

motherinferior · 03/06/2015 17:13

Witch: some of their stuff is lovely. The retinol night treatment is rather good, I think. I myself am mainly loving face oils at the moment...

Our cats have fleas rather a lot. We deflea, they go out, return refleaed.

OH DEAR GOD re neighbour.

I seem not to have done very much today - it's been vv bitty - but at least managed at least not to send an email to someone requesting an interview whom I then discovered errr died last month. Ahem.

herbaceous · 03/06/2015 17:21

Re fleas, we Got A Man In. He came in, sprayed the place in noxious chemicals, fleas kaput. And haven't returned.

On the website for this pest controller it said 'discreet unmarked van', then he turned up with his transit emblazoned with pictures of fleas, mice, carpet beetles, silverfish... He may as well have sprayed 'unclean' over the front of the house.

bigTillyMint · 03/06/2015 17:26

MrsS, that sounds like more than dementia. Although I don't know much about it, it sounds like he is delusional rather than/as well as having dementia?
If you and your DH can't face it any more, understandably, I think your DH is going to have to get blunt with him and tell him that you can't help and to go away. Maybe more than once.

And can't you just order a new kitchen from JL, which is what my friend has done and more or less what I did with DH, though mine was from Howdens. I just told him I was going to sort it and presented it as a fait-acompli when the builder came round.

MI, oops.

bigTillyMint · 03/06/2015 18:50

I knew the thread title should have been Crepeys on the verge of a
post-exam party meltdown. DD has now ordered 2 other Prom dresses to choose from!

whattodoforthebest2 · 03/06/2015 19:02

BTM - snap! DD told me last night she's not sure about her dress! After buying about 3 or 4 dresses, sending them back and trying on umpteen more and then being very pleased at her choice, she's now unsure.... Argh!

I need Wine - join me?

OP posts:
bigTillyMint · 03/06/2015 19:25

Why not!

She has picked a pink (flesh rather than bright) one which I don't think is the right colour for her and a black one, so we'll seeWink

whattodoforthebest2 · 03/06/2015 20:53

DD has a red one and apparently lots of girls have chosen shades of blue or beige/nude colours, so I think she was quite happy to be different. I don't know what's wrong with it now. The prom is 3 weeks from today and we're away for a week, so not a lot of time left...

No prom dresses for a couple of years, but DS has announced he needs a suit for a) business week and b) his end of year boat trip. Where can I go that isn't going to cost a small fortune?

MontserratCaballe · 04/06/2015 05:52

CV, I was at a work thing with a colleague who is vair' vair' posh and she got her 4 boys their interview suits (and their black tie "for balls") from Matalan of all places. She said they were OK quality for the cash and she didn't want to spend £££ while they were still growing. Worth a look?

I returned from 2 glasses of red on an empty stomach to find my childminder in tears as DD2 had been so horrid to her since school pick up Shock. DD1 tearfully confirmed this whilst DD2 sulked upstairs. This is most unlike DD2, but I am very embarrassed and a little worried for my social life if childminder refuses to work for me any more. I know she is horrid to me at times but thought that was the mother's privilege. Oh dear. I was too angry to get to the bottom of it last night. I shall have to see how the land lies this morning.

whattodoforthebest2 · 04/06/2015 06:00

Hi CV - DS2 has just bought a suit from Next, which is very nice, mid-grey, slim-fitting. I think it was £110, which included a white shirt too. I've also found Debenhams to be good for suits, they have several ranges at £99 and they'll probably be reduced in the sale in a few weeks' time, if you're not in a hurry.

Rudy - gold/silver/champagne prom dresses sound very glamorous.

We're off to Kingston this afternoon, post-exam, to look for shoes... So I'm hoping the dress is back in favour.

Morning to all - it looks like it's going to be a beautiful day.

I'm away this weekend for an engagement party - the first of a long line of nieces and nephews to be taking the plunge. Apparently there's a bouncy castle! Good to know DNeph hasn't grown up too much. Grin

Sorry, MC, cross-post.

That's worrying about your cm, I hope the explanation/apology is good enough to win her round again.

OP posts:
hattymattie · 04/06/2015 06:12

M&S CV? I do remember lots of the boys at uni got pretty decent suits at charity shops.

Herbs - can't believe the price of that tiny cottage - even though it is gorgeous
inside.

My DSis had fleas when they moved into their house. They had been on the pets of the previous owner and then left behind in the carpet. In the absence of pets, hungry fleas nipped DSis and BiL on the ankles. Professional help was required.

Exhausted after Lear in the Bois du Boulogne last night even though it was very good. Today, have school meeting with DD2's uni counsellors. I think we are going round in circlesHmm.

wherewouldibe · 04/06/2015 07:00

Neighbours from hell - I read an article yesterday about a neighbour who constantly sang show tunes at his neighbours I couldn't help but wonder if I might have joined in...?

whats forget prom dresses what are you wearing to the engagement party?

Cats/kittens - yuck. Couldn't think of anything worse. I'm a dirty dog person myself.

MrsS get all the tools out of your garage and leave them near the kitchen tell the husband you are going to make a start yourself it may scare him into pulling his finger out (or it may back fire and he may sigh with relief..!)

NUFC69 · 04/06/2015 07:30

Another lovely day here, too, - and I have my charity work meeting this morning in a tiny airless room.

Monty, I hope you can sort out the problem about the CM and DD.

I have heard that Matalan is good for cheap suits as well, but worth checking M&S and Next. I hope the prom dresses get sorted out soon. I remember falling in love with a silver grey number for DD, until she tried it on, when it leeched every bit of colour out of her pale face. She went with black in the end.

I am in danger of turning into a gibbering wreck as I contemplate everything I need to do before we go away. I still haven't got enough clothes, we have DGD1's birthday party, other DGC on Tuesday all day. The garden needs work, the house will need cleaning; oh, and I will need to do the Minutes of today's meeting otherwise I will forget what's said, packing, manicure and pedicure.

I wish I was on the plane already.

whattodoforthebest2 · 04/06/2015 07:40

Where - morning! I have no idea... If I could lose a few pounds by Saturday I might be able to fit into one of the dresses in my wardrobe! I'll drag myself out for a run this morning and then have a think.

If you're into show tunes, a show choir has just started up nearby, which I hadn't heard of before... I was tempted by the rock choir, but getting my voice out in public is a bit scary. Blush Whereas I have no shame in belting out jazz greats to the dog in the comfort of my own kitchen!!
