Not sure if I should be starting the new thread as I'm the last poster on the old one - is this how it works?

OP posts:
Blackduck · 07/06/2015 21:37

I hate Strange and Norrell. - hated the book too. Wine, crisps, patio......

Loving the idea of polyester combustion.... Oh nylon sheets and naylon nightie - sparks anyone? Still remember it!

And men's nylon shirts and sweat yuck yuck yuck....

MrsSchadenfreude · 07/06/2015 22:11

CV - do the trousers stand up on their own?

BD - yes, nylon nightie and nylon sheets, and rubbing frantically to make sparks. And brushed nylon nightie and brushed nylon sheets for the winter. We used to get ours (and the nylon bedspreads) from the Brentford Nylons Outlet Shop at, err, Brentford).

Eeeee.... snagging toenails on nylon sheets...

I'm pretty certain DS will reject the polyester Matalan number, but the equivalent in Top Man was £100 - more than twice the price.

QueenQueenie · 07/06/2015 22:22

Hope it all gets sorted Rudy. Such things are very stressful - but often go away more quickly / easily than you fear ime. Hope this is true for you.

Herbs and Stropps - well done on the churning out work front - have a teacake to celebrate?!

Herbs - if you will put on a cap sleeved t shirt you have only yourself to blame.

NUFC69 · 08/06/2015 07:14

Worries that she's too old for cap sleeves ...

Well done, Herbs and Stropps. Rudy, good luck at work.

I am now getting worried about the changes to the driving licence which came into force today. Needless to say, we're hiring a car in Canada on Saturday, so we can't get this code they are talking about before we leave on Wednesday. DH is very blasé about it- who on earth normally takes their National Insurance no away with them on holiday. DH has form for losing things. Aaah!

bigTillyMint · 08/06/2015 08:05

Cap sleeves? I wear vest topsGrin

Feeling knackered as I've been awake since 4 and up since 5 - DD woke at 3.30 and when I heard her go down at 5, I went down to check she was OK. I was cooking pancakes for her at 6.30am which is unheard of. Fingers crossed that the second Edexcel maths isn't as bad as the first.

MrsSchadenfreude · 08/06/2015 08:11

I paid £20 on Friday to amend the address on my driving licence, as I had lost the counterpart bit... I was slightly disturbed that the "Government Gateway" could find no trace of me via my driver number, NI number or passport number - it told me that both of my passports had expired (they haven't, although they were issued overseas) and I needed to print off and fill in a further questionnaire (which asked for all of the above, plus my new address) and send it off for "further security checks". NU - can you contact the car hire company and ask if they need the code? The smug git man in charge of this fiasco said on radio 4 this morning that most car hire companies wouldn't ask for it.

Rose - so more of a Bat Titzvah then?! Grin

hattymattie · 08/06/2015 08:20

Mrs S - I think said before I thought you were a spy - maybe they all think you are - or you've forgotten who you are in the manner of The Bourne ConspiracyWink.

MrsSchadenfreude · 08/06/2015 08:33

I think I have forgotten who I am - definitely not a spy though!

Rosebag · 08/06/2015 08:35

Like I said MrsS ..incorrigible. Well its all about to go tits up…I'm on the way to a three hour development team meeting in Hampstead feeling very much the worse for wear.

Good luck to Tilly's DD for the Maths.

Well done on completion of the assignment Herbs

Rudy good luck sorting out the complaint. Hope it's not too stressful.

I'm late...

CointreauVersial · 08/06/2015 10:04

NU - I bet they won't even ask about endorsements etc. As a fallback, why don't you print off the "View Driving Licence" summary (comes out as a nice PDF) before you go? I know the code won't work after 72 hours but at least you'll have it all printed out. (Company Fleet Manager speaking here...)

NUFC69 · 08/06/2015 11:35

CV, DH says in over 30 years of hiring cars he has only been asked for it once so you're probably right. I do like the idea of printing out the PDF before we go, though. Thanks for your help.

Mountains of washing today and, of course, it has rained. DH has gone to hospital as part of the research project and I should be packing. Mani and pedi later, though the way my finger nails are splitting the manicure won't last long.

Rose, I hope your morning is better than anticipated, and BTM, I hope DD's exam goes ok. Not long to go now, I expect, until it's all finished.

Blackduck · 08/06/2015 11:39

Rudy hope it goes well today.

Very tired here but my night out has been cancelled for various reasons so at least I can head home for an early night.....
Have a good Monday all.

herbaceous · 08/06/2015 11:50

I think I'm the only crepey never to have had a manipedi. I occasionally put some nail varnish over my toenail claws in summer, but that's about it.

Feeling like a skittish kitten at having finished my assignment. Hadn't realised quite what a burden it was. Maybe I'll actually be able to sleep properly again now...

motherinferior · 08/06/2015 12:26

No, I too am a manipedi virgin.

Conducted a somewhat nervous attempt at a Ladyjog this morning. Knee still manifesting Alarming Stiffness (fnar). Think I should resume the practice of swimming, though I would have to get up earlier.

herbaceous · 08/06/2015 12:40

My exercise comprised walking DS to school, then onward to the station to go and hand my assignment. Trains up the spout, so I walked home again. Embarrassingly tired - it was only two miles...

hattymattie · 08/06/2015 12:40

Another manipedi virgin - I run after my DD's begging them to put some varnish on my toes each year.

MrsSchadenfreude · 08/06/2015 12:46

I used to have mani pedis all the time when I was single. Since I married, I now have bitten stumps and my toe nails are broken and manky. Bits seem to break off them all the time - is that a deficiency in something? (Apart from toenails, that is.)

Rudy, hope today goes OK with the work hassle.

I am being hounded by Hotter adverts...

NUFC69 · 08/06/2015 12:54

But brightly coloured nail varnish draws attention away from wrinkles and tired looking skin! And the joy of having non-cracked smooth heels. I am fortunate as I go to a therapist who does it at home and it isn't expensive.

bigTillyMint · 08/06/2015 13:18

I have Pedi's (got bright red on Sat!) but mani's are mostly wasted on me as whatever I do, my nails break. Gel nails last a couple of weeks, but the aftermath isn't good.

lalsy · 08/06/2015 14:28

I've never had mani or pedi.

BTM, poor love, hope she cheers up. She must be exhausted. BBC has belatedly published article a journo has bravely ventured into statistical undergrowth and found out what standardised scores are explaining why hard qns do not necessarily = lower scores. It is horrid when you are thrown off balance - there was a misprint in a university entrance maths paper I did, on one of the questions that were supposed to be doable, making it impossible. Talk about silent panic!

Herbs, well done Flowers.

I have dd back, with is lovely in many ways and a mixed blessing in others as ds still doing GCSEs (and on study leave) and I have work, and the internet only works in parts of our (small) house.

MI, do you know what was the matter with your knee? My knees are rubbish but have stopped making loud and surprising noises now I wear clown shoes and do lots of non-jarring exercise (badminton is a impact-y as I go). I don't think breast stroke is good for knees, but cycling on a woggle in the pool is, I think. I have also discovered the ultimate in ladyexercise in the form of a very enthusiastic group doing aqua aerobics, singing along as they lunge Grin.

bigTillyMint · 08/06/2015 14:37

Thanks! She rang earlier to say it wasn't as bad as the first. But also to say that she and her friend had left school without permission so they could do their English together. Why they aren't on study leave I do not understand at allConfused

Lalsy, how lovely to have your DD backSmile I also have dodgy knees and one is making funny noises, aggravated sadly by jumping-type exercises at circuitsSad

Stropperella · 08/06/2015 14:57

Sorry to hear about the early-morning misery in your house, BTM. Hope things are less stressful tomorrow. Does your dd's school not do study leave, then?
The only time I had mani-pedis was during the first month that I was an ex-pat wifey, many years ago. The other wifeys descended on me within the first week of my being there and decreed that I must spend my time like they did, i.e. going for beauty treatments, doing aerobics, bitching and having babies. I lasted a month and then I went and did my driving test and then got a car and a teaching job. I did keep up with the aerobics, but not with the wifeys. I confess I don't really like people fiddling with my feet anyway. Nothing against a nice facial, though. Grin I find that whatever product I put on my nails, they get shot to pieces by any application of colour. Anyone got any good suggestions for (inexpensive) protective undercoats?
(assignment still doodling on and on and on)

Stropperella · 08/06/2015 14:59

ps: Lalsy, I am giving serious consideration to going to aqua-aerobics, but so far I haven't been sufficiently organised.
