Black dress for a funeral

A dear friend passed away yesterday, huge shock to us all. Funeral is likely to be end of this week/start of next so I need a dress. I've piled on the weight lately so nothing fits.

Friend always liked it when I wore dress/skirt so would like that over trousers.

I don't have the energy to go out shopping so would prefer to buy online. Size 14 pear, blond, fair skin.

Any help appreciated Flowers

I'm so sorry. You must still be in shock Flowers

I'll have a look. Do you want sleeves or are you going to wear a jacket?

tethersend · 31/05/2015 12:04

How much do you want to spend?

Flowers Baukjen - quite expensive but is a classic style that will not date. Baukjen again

Sorry - x posts with Tethers there.

I was faced with having to get an outfit for a funeral at very short notice.
I was 300 miles from home with hardly anything with me - certainly nothing suitable.
I went into the local Debenhams thinking that I would ask for a personal shopper.
There was no personal shopper service, but two sales ladies took me to a changing room and sorted me out. I will never forget their kindness - I was in a state of grief and shock at the time and they were so helpful.
Op - if you have time it might be worth giving your local big store a call.

I am so sorry for your loss.

Preferably sleeves, although I probably will wear a jacket I get very hot so will remove as soon as possible.

Thank you all for your kind words and help x

Budget up to £100 I'd think.

How about this dress from Monsoon? Jessie Jacquard Dress

It's flattering, simple but elegant, and good value (£59 but feels more expensive). I have it btw, I'm a size 12-14 pear/hourglass shape. It doesn't have sleeves but you could wear a jacket or something with it.

Good suggestion from 3littlefrogs to get help from a personal shopper or sales assistant. You could try Debenhams, John Lewis or House of Fraser if you have any of those near you.

Also, if you can't find a dress you like, maybe consider a top and skirt? You might be more likely to wear them again (as you could mix and match with other things).

This dress is quite unusual so might not be your style but could be worth a look (has sleeves): Vivienne Lace Swing Dress

Glad you like the Monsoon dress, hope you like it as much "in the flesh" Smile

If you're still looking for options, Lindy Bop have some nice black dresses with sleeves, e.g.
Victoria dress
Carmen dress
Mia dress
