What to wear for Gold DofE Presentation

As thread title, my DD has achieved her Gold Duke of Edinburgh award (unstealth boast Smile) and we will be going to the ceremony at Holyrood. Has anyone been to one of these - how formal is it? It says a hat isn't necessary (phew) but is it dress and jacket smart, or more smart casual?

Thank you for any help from any stylish people who have already been there/done that.

Not been yet as my Dd will only complete her gold this summer, but SIL has been twice, St James Palace and Holyrood and wore a smart jacket with a skirt/dress. My nephews both wore suits. HTH

That is helpful, thank you Frisky . I assume if the boys were in suits it is quite formal. I am going to have a job persuading DH into a suit.... I assume the men have to wear ties then?

at DD1s, it was job interview smart, so yes, probably tie for men. HTH

When we went everyone was smart a lot of women wore jackets but not everyone. My advice is flat shoes or wedges because we spent a lot of time standing around on grass.

No idea what to wear, just wanted to say well done to your DD - brilliant achievement!

Definitely smart, I got my Gold at St James. You'd look slightly out of place in a hat but get your DH in a suit.

Thanks everyone - and the pictures are a great. OK summer dress & jacket for me with flat shoes. To my surprise, DH has offered to wear his kilt, so he will look great.

Congratulations to everyone who has been to one of these ceremonies - I am very proud of my DD's achievement.
