Which flat shoes for work?

LapinDeBois · 29/05/2015 07:57

I've recently gone back to work and I'm a bit out of practice buying work clothes. I work in a school, so I need to be smart but not too smart, and it's important that I'm comfortable. I've got a couple of pairs of heels, but I don't want to wear heels every day as they're not that practical. What flat or v low shoes should I get that are smart enough for work? I had a quick look in Clarks, but they only seemed to have very mumsy options. I'm not a big fashion follower, but I don't want anything too clunky. Help please?

Shoe Therapy ballet flats from seraphine are very comfy and come in a good range of colours.

LapinDeBois · 29/05/2015 21:25

Thanks, I'll check those out. Any other suggestions?

Oooooo I just got some semi sparkly loafers from Schuh - £40, and I'm thinking of going back for some more. Fab!

RemusLupinsBiggestGroupie · 29/05/2015 21:54

I like these from Clarks. I'm a mum though, so may well be mumsy! :)

SweetAndFullOfGrace · 29/05/2015 21:56

Shoe therapy. I've just bought a pair and they're very comfy.

RemusLupinsBiggestGroupie · 29/05/2015 21:56

These lace up ones from Office are lovely irl - much nicer than the pic suggests. And gorgeous in grey too.

Bunbaker · 29/05/2015 22:02

Sorry Remus but I think the lace ups are hideous.

RemusLupinsBiggestGroupie · 29/05/2015 22:04

:) Just because I didn't like the Skechers! (Sticks tongue out at Bun Grin

museumum · 29/05/2015 22:04

People in my work area (where most women wear flats) are syllable wearing brogues. I guess they're mane a bit "last season" but I still like them.

Bunbaker · 29/05/2015 22:07

Grin Ner ner ner

Pollywallywinkles · 29/05/2015 22:09

Have you looked at Moda in Pelle? They have some nice fashionable flats.

Rainbowdeep · 29/05/2015 22:12

Remus have you got those ones from clarks? If so do they squeak?I've just bought them in tan but they squeak so loudly I've got to return them! They're really nice but just so....loud!

RemusLupinsBiggestGroupie · 29/05/2015 22:14

Not yet, Rainbow. Have been waiting for them to be reduced! Not sure I want them if they squeak, though!

Ruralninja · 29/05/2015 22:17

Campers do some great low heels or flats with a rubberized sole so really cushioned. My feet get shredded by most shoes but I can wear them all day

Rainbowdeep · 29/05/2015 22:19

Maybe I've just got a freaky squeaky pair! Like OP I work in a school and imagined myself squeaking across the classroom. They've got to go back!

Lurleene · 29/05/2015 22:52

Rainbow - I have those shoes and yes, they do squeak! I've had them about a month and they still do it.

I do love them though - they are perfect for work. Sandally without getting your toes out.

Glitteryfrog · 29/05/2015 23:06

Brogues?
I've got black, tan and a pale yellowy pair in different styles.

LapinDeBois · 31/05/2015 07:32

Thanks for all the suggestions- really helpful. I found these on Schuh which I rather like www.schuh.co.uk/womens/hush-puppies-janessa-tan-flat-shoes/1304006220/. Also these www.shoon.com/m/womens-shoes/shoes-ballerinas/michaela-22160-taupe-suede.htm and these though they're more than I would normally spend www.shoon.com/m/womens-shoes/shoes-ballerinas/montana-24-112-heaven-caramel-nubuck.htm. Also like these www.whitestuff.com/mobile/womens/shoes-sandals/navy-peeptoe-flat/ although the peep toe makes them less versatile. Any views?

I like the gabor Montana ones - and gabor are usually super comfy!

Runningupthathill82 · 31/05/2015 08:05

Dorothy Perkins are surprisingly good for work flats. Don't like their clothes, but their shoes are always worth a look.
I've got a few of their pastel-coloured pointy-toed ones, which I'm wearing with cigarette trousers and silky T shirts a lot at the moment. Also a stripy pair of peek-toes, and some flat loafers.
They're not the best quality, but for around £10 (there's always 20 or 30% off) they'll do you at least one season.
They're also no worse quality than my £55 nude Office courts (boring, but basic), which are ruined after barely a few wears.

Tried theses yesterday, very comfy for flats

RemusLupinsBiggestGroupie · 31/05/2015 14:31

Really dislike the White Stuff ones, sorry. The others are just boring ballet shoes - perfectly okay for work, but none of them going to win any prizes for beauty!

Behooven · 31/05/2015 14:44

Gabor Haven and Clarks brogues with the cut out design, both very comfortable
