Can I ask a question about laser hair removal?

I recently booked and paid for a set of 6. It was non refundable. However, I couldn't even bear the pain for 5mins of the first session. I have metal in my teeth and jaw due to an accident and it was basically conducting. The pain was intense and I nearly passed out.
I want to ask if this is a known issue or common side effect? Would it always be like this or are there different ways of doing it? I'm gutted to have spent £600 but more gutted not to be able to have it done.

I think the salon are wrong not to refund you.
During your initial consultation this should have been discussed with you. Did you complete a questionnaire regarding any health issues or likely complications?

It is completely unreasonable in the circumstances not to refund you.

I have had laser hair removal and whilst there was discomfort I hadn't the pain you describe. I have a mouth full of amalgam fillings.

The alternative is to take a strong painkiller before you go for a session or apply some numbing cream ( forget the name of it ) available from your pharmacist. It numbs the area you are having lasered.

I have completed my laser I had lip and chin done. I had it done over 6 sessions. One session every 6-8 weeks. It cost £50.00per session and they used the Alexandrite machine.

Thanks, Maverick. It's not localised pain. The pain shoots through my jaw and all around my skull. It feels as though my head is in a vice.
I will go back and ask again about a refund or at least partial refund.

Hi, I had a lot of pain having my bikini and underarm hair lasered off. Luckily my therapist was great and recommended going to boots to get EMLA cream.

You put it on the area being lasered an hour before and wrap it in cling film and it numbs the skin, its what they use for children when putting in a canula so really strong. It helped me anyway as I am a wuss with pain!

Lasering was one of the best things I have ever done, good luck.

The EMLA cream is the cream I was referring to in my original post.

I have been speaking, since my last post, to the receptionist, in the salon where I got my laser done. She says that one of the questions on their questionnaire is about steel plates metal fillings etc. their salon would not take on your lasering unless they had given you a free trial. the trial would then have alerted you to the pain..

I really think if painkiller/Emla cream combo don't work you should push for a refund. The salon should have pointed out to you that it was not a suitable procedure if you had a history of metal plates etc.
