Family wedding outfits... tone colours?

What is the done thing? Should we (me, dh, DS7yrs and DD4yrs) wear colours of similar tones or is that utterly naff??? Completely non matchy colours better?

My dress has pinky/mauve tones with black accessories, can DS wear navy pinstripe waistcoat/ trousers or will we look crap in the family photos?

What colour shirt should DS wear with navy pinstripe?

Thanks :)

I would just choose for the individual and not consider the family as a group.

Did family photos for my Mum's 60th last autumn. Had a look on Pinterest for ideas if what we wanted & noted that if a tie between everyone colour wise it helped (there were 2 kids & 6 adults in them). I just said to family to make sure that blue was Dom colour (not specifying shade) & feel it really worked without looking too samey.
