Cuticles are a mess,what do you use?

My cuticles are scraggy,raggy, dry and ugly. I used to use oil on them but a beautician told me it thinned nails.
What do you use? All recommendations welcome.

CND Solar oil is lovely, and Flexitol cuticle cream is tremaze.

Don't ask me how this started as I have no idea, but I use Vicks vapour rub on mine of a night, soaks in quite quickly and it stops them being dry and stops the skin around them getting chapped

Its amazing how many things you can use Vicks for, I use it instead of lip balm and it stops me getting cold sores and keeps my lips from going dry, if I do get a cold sore (usually if I haven't been using it) Vicks helps more than cold sore creams

I have a small child that still wakes at night, would the Vicks be a bad idea on hands,do you think?

Jump123 use the oil. I don't think that beautician knew her arse from her elbow tbh.
Oil and wax are perfect for cuticles, and they don't thin the nails..... How could they?!

If you're worried about getting mentholated Vicks into your baby's eye or something, maybe coconut oil, or just regular Vaseline would be best, but I swear by burtbees cuticle cream, it has bees wax in it and stays put overnight.

I use a Sally Hansen nail oil pen (but it's just a neat way of applying oil, same theory as all of the above.).

My cuticles have been a mess all
My adult life. I'm 47. I've recently got them in check by using a roll on cuticle oil. But I need to use it every night.

I also use a hand and nail cream every night. If I skip a few nights, as I tend to do, it all goes dreadful again. So I think the key is dedicated persistence.

My nails have also been MUCH stronger since I've been using the oil. I suspect you've been given bad advice.

Putting cream on very thick at night and sleeping in white gloves is an intensive treatment that works.

Opi cuticle oil is brilliant. Use it several times daily. The look improves immediately.

Vaseline doesn't do anything for me. I think it makes a protective barrier but doesn't actually help the appearance much...IMHO

Develop the habit of pushing your cuticles back when your hanging around. I do it on the bus, in boring large meetings where I won't be noticed, when I'm in the phone. It never develops intro a problem ore requires special intervention.

TheHappinessTrap - I push mine back but they still go really dry and look awful, plus the skin around there goes chapped - all stopped since using the Vicks

How could oil thin your nails? What kind were you using ???

The Sally Hansen nail oil pen is fab for carrying around in your handbag. I use it when I'm on the bus or just hanging around. Flexitol Cuticle and Nail Cream is a good product.

Superdrug do a cuticle oil pen for £3. It also has a tool to push your cuticles back. I think you can refill it.

I keep one on my bag and do my nails on my commute.

Watching with interest.
If I try to push mine back or tidy them in any way, the skin below my nail bed peels back and gets very sore. I apply hand cream every night and wear rubber gloves for cleaning/washing up but still they object to any form of control! My nailbeds are short and stubby and I'd love them to look nice. I hate them Sad

Coconut oil is good and works quickly but I do find it a bit messy.

almond oil or coconut oil. i find almond oil less messy and it seems to absorb better.

As someone says above - Flexitol. Use it for a month & your cuticles will actually look like the picture on the box.
