DIY hair dye kits - any decent ones?

I currently have blonde hair and I need to get my roots done.

I'm having a baby in two weeks so thinking of ways to save a bit of cash and was thinking of just doing my hair myself.

I have only ever used DIY kits when I have had brown hair but I don't think I want to go that dark.

Are there any decent at home kits anyone knows of that would be good on previously highlighted blonde hair? Or is this a really bad idea?!

Ooo depend how dark your roots are ! Blondes diy can be tricky ESP if dark roots as they may go a bit orangey ! Err with caution ! I have used dark blonde loreal but my roots are mainly grey ;) ( once used the Olia one and the darker bits went ginger ! Bit of a minefield ! Some one else may have the answer .,,

Thanks Itsalldramarama

My roots are a dark ash blonde. I'm debating whether to go for a light brown or try and get close to my existing blonde.

Or if I should just suck it up and spend £100 and get my hair done professionally.

I have blond hair and dye it myself with John Frieda mousse. I would recommend it.
