Non-weddingy wedding dress help!

A desperate plea for help!

I am getting married (registry office) in a few weeks and have had no luck finding THE dress for me to get married in.

I am early 40s, size 14-16 (classic pear shape), 5'3" with collar length highlighted hair and hazel eyes. Also quite pale skin.

I am chunky of limb so would love a suitable dress with sleeves but alas these seem rarer than hens' teeth so am prepared to wear a sleeveless one and get a nice cover up.

I also have rather fat knees so the dress would need to sit below knee.

I like the idea of a full skirt, not too keen on pencil skirts. And I am not a fan of pastel colours, prefer brights and I quite like floral patterns.

Hope that's enough to give you some ideas - I will be eternally grateful to anyone who can suggest any suitable dresses.

Do you have a budget in mind?

hellsbellsmelons · 21/05/2015 13:47

I got a LindyBop dress www.lindybop.co.uk/dresses-c1/selema-classically-elegant-blackberry-vintage-inspired-50s-evening-dress-p1371as I'm going to be a sort of a bridesmaid. I will wear a cover up or little cardi to cover arms.

I am 5 4 probably a size 18 but am large framed and busted. The sizing is a bit skew whiff and I had to go up 2 sizes to get my rib cage in this one but the dress is amazing quality for the money. I have fat knees and with the big petticoat sits just right to hide them. I think the sizing depends on the dress style - others are more stretchy and on the big side. So it's just trial and error.

Oh and I'm 46 and was worried I might look a bit Bette Davies in 'Whatever happened to Baby Jane' in a 50's style dress but actually it's fine and I hate dressing up.

Have a look at Dig for Victory. If they don't have anything made up that you like, they will make it for you. You can add sleeves, change the length, etc.

Here's mine. It was from la redoute and well under budget. It's a Delphine manivet and it even had pockets
