AIBU? Curly hair!

So, I have curly hair. I love it, but I HATE the fact that hairdressers never listen to what I want, products are expensive and hard to find - and often out of stock.

I recently posted to say I had cut my own hair and loved it. People mentioned on that thread that Matthew James in Birmingham cuts hair the Deva curl way (curl by curl on dry hair). I decided I wanted a proper cut from him and would treat myself. November is the next appointment I could get for a Saturday! SO I've booked it anyway, and actually it works out ok as I'm dieting so hopefully I will have cheekbones by then.

My hairdryer packed up the other day, so I thought I'd by this Devafuser. Not in stock. Not anywhere. I can only assume it's not made anymore as I can't even find it in America.

Just....so annoyed! I want my hair to look beautiful! Naturally! There are hundreds if not thousands of hair tools to make my hair curly or straight, but hardly any for natural curls.

I'm just annoyed. Just having an S&B rant, don't mind me

I got a cut with Matt last year and once you have the right cut/style all you need is the right shampoo if you use it, conditioner and gel and you are good to go. I let mine air dry and it looks great if I'm in a rush I will use the diffuser.

I don't like to air dry, it dries far too flat for my liking.

I've got some fab products now, but it's taken a lot of experimentation (and money)!

I want to get all my hair cut of with Matt (hence the cheekbones comment) and can't wait. For the last three years I've been asking for an angled bob, even when I take pictures in I never come out with what I want. I don't want a bob! I want an angled bob!

I have had good haircuts before - but they're never quite what I want. I think hairdressers are scared of cutting it too short, or not being able to fix it because of the curls. They refuse to cut it dry as well which annoys me, because every single hairdresser I've been to has had one elderly diffuser which almost has to be sellotaped onto the hairdryer. And my hair comes out like a helmet, always, if I let them put product on and dry it. I take my own now.

When I bought my haircutting scissors, I got them from an ethnic hair shop in Liverpool. Got some amazing products as well - MyDNA Co-wash is just stunning, as is the oil moisturiser. I have shiny hair without straightening it!

I'll post pics. Just pisses me off. Brand new, enormous Boots in town and barely anything for curly hair? I mean, every second person is a woman, a lot of them are black with afro hair or white with curls. Why is it so hard to get appropriate products?

My friend suggested an afro hairdresser and there is one near me. I just think that for a drastic cut I'll go to someone who has reviews and I know has dealt with my hair type before.

Lorraine Massey you are English, come and train all our crap hairdressers!

(And start selling your hairdryer again)

YANBU, most of my friends with curly hair get it straightened, but I want to keep my curls! I live in the SE and can't justify going all the way the Birmnigham for a hair cut. Can anyone recommend a hairdresser for curly hair in London?

There is a dude in London that does deva cuts - I can't remember his name off he top of my head. London is a bit too far for a haircut for me unfortunately!

To those who say air drying makes it flat .. Periodically through the drying I tip my head , rub the roots and flick it back .. It lifts it while drying ..

Those of you who have access to a black hair products shop, give this stuff a try...

Some boots stores sell it too, but probably only in bigger cities.

Its not oily/greasy so doesn't weigh your hair down, they also have a hair 'moisturising lotion' too which is good.
